Emercyn went home that night by herself. Her mom was at work, Mark was still down the shore, and Lily was sleeping at a friends house. Everything that had been happening made her tired, nervous, and beyond sad. She had spent the last few days constantly with all of her friends, she wanted to be by herself. The sound of her phone ringing made her jump back.

"Aiden, I told you I was fine!" Em said annoyed into the phone.

"I didn't call you to ask if you were okay. I called to talk to you, I miss you," Aiden said. Em immediately felt bad.

"I'm sorry I'm just upset. I know I shouldn't use it as an excuse but it's the truth," She said. She paced around the living room nervously, feeling stupid for yelling at him

"I know, don't be sorry. Just call me if you need anything," He said. Em looked at the time quickly, 8:03.

"Come over at 8:30," Em said.

"Okay, I love you," Aiden said. Em could tell how happy he was just by the sound of his voice.

"I love you, too," She said laughing. They hung up and Em sighed happily. Even though all of this bad stuff was happening, she still had Aiden and her friends.

As Em made her way over to the couch, she heard a loud bang. Her whole body tensed up and she stopped in her tracks.

It was Sadie, it had to be the dog.

Em turned to see Sadie sound asleep on the floor next to the couch. Her heartbeat increased as she turned her attention toward the basement door.

It's just another schizophrenic episode, none of this was real.

Em had episodes like that often. She would hear things and sometimes she would even hear people, like talking. Normally, she would sit there and wait for it to end but this time, it was different.

Em was known for her gut feelings. There had been many bad things that had happened right after Em had a bad feeling. Besides, all the talk about Matthew and his twisted ways made her even more nervous.

She thought about calling Agent Cooper. She thought about calling Aiden. But what if it's not real? What if this is just because of her condition. She felt sick, she felt like at any given moment she would just pass out.

There were no more noises, everything was quiet.

She didn't want to make a big deal out of it, so she went to her room. She quickly made her way up the stairs and shut the door behind her. She let out a sigh of relief but that sigh was immediately turned into a gasp as she saw the sight of her room.

Her bedroom was a mess. Pillows and blankets were thrown on the floor. Her drawers were open and clothes were spilling out. A picture of her and her father was shattered. She looked around the room one more time and thought of one person: Lily!

Lily was the one who destroyed her room and made the loud bang. Lily probably lied about going to her friend's house. They were probably downstairs, hiding and waiting for the perfect opportunity to scare her.

Infuriated, she began to pick up all the pillows and blankets from the floor. She shoved her clothes back into the drawers and slammed it shut.

She knew that Lily did this out of anger. She was home alone, she had all the time in the world to do whatever she wanted. And of course, she chose to make life harder for Em.

Em was pissed, beyond pissed. She never understood why Lily hated her so much for something she couldn't control, the relationship she had with her father. It's not like Lily was forgotten, she was still equally loved. Em didn't know whatever went wrong.

She sighed as she swung her bedroom door open. She stepped out into the hallway and slammed the door shut behind her.

"I know this is some stupid prank of yours, Lil!" Emercyn shouted as she stomped down the steps. "I know you're here!"

She made it to the living room and there was still no sign of Lily. There was no soft laughter, there was no talking. Just complete silence.

She spotted the paper sitting there on the kitchen table. It wasn't there before, she knew of it. It was hard to miss. She slowly walked over, she had to make sure it was real. She reached out and grabbed it.

il t'aime beaucoup

l ne va pas bien

She knew what the words meant; He loves you very much, he is not okay.
She knew the note was about Adam.
She knew who wrote the note, Matthew.
The handwriting was the same as the suicide note and her notes.

Her gut feeling came back. The one she had the night at Andy's, the one where she felt like someone was burning holes through her head. She slowly turned around.

There he was, standing there staring deeply at her. He stood in the doorway to the basement, his hands were full of papers. She froze in her place and she dropped the note to the floor.

"You're not real," She said. She tried to sound intimidating but instead, her voice came out timid and weak.

The corners of his mouth twitched upward into an eerie smile. Em shivered at the sight of him but she knew it wasn't real. This was the sad part of her illness, she never was the one in control. It was either medicine or let them freely happen. But the note, that note was real.

He took a step toward her, his black work boots shuffling across the floor. The black work boots! The boots she saw at Andy's. Her whole world felt as if it had crashed down on her as she watched Matthew walk toward her.

She remembered every piece of information that Agent Cooper had told her. Everything from his disorder to his wife to the car crash to the notes.

For a split second, she thought she was going to die. A strange man who could be the reason for her father's death is standing before her, his brown eyes full of humor as he watched the little girl step back in fear.

That's what he wanted from her, he wanted her to be afraid of him.

He reached out to her face and lightly ran a finger down her face. Her breathing picked up as she watched him stare her down.

It was real.

"No wonder why Adam loves you," He whispered lightly as she gulped loudly. They were so close that she could feel his breath on her face. "So pretty, just like your friend."

Em's stomach turned as she realized what he had said. He was the one who raped Lee. He was at the Fairmount party for that, not for his nephew. Without even thinking of it, she raised her hand and slapped him hard across the face.

He backed up a little but didn't look too amused. He rubbed his hand across his cheek as he smiled that same eerie smile.

"What do you want from me?" Em yelled out as she felt herself begin to cry.

He didn't say anything but came back toward her.

The sound of the front door opening caused him to jump back.

"Em, where you-" Aiden came walking into the living room. He stopped dead in his tracks when he saw Matthew. His eyes widen. Em turned back around but he was already gone. The basement door was shut and some of the papers were all over the floor.

Em ran to Aiden and crashed into his arms.

"Hey, I got you. It's okay," Aiden said as he held Em's sobbing body. "I'll never let him hurt you again."
