"Your sword isn't just a weapon. You need to think of it as an extension to your own body." Skylar tried to explain to the young boy. She was seated on a fallen log that was soaked in the night's dew her eyes trained on the boy that practiced his lunges, and rolls. "If you don think of it like that you will cut yourself on a roll or over estimate your lunge and the enemy will take advantage of your mistake."
The boy simply sighed as he looked over at the older teen. "Anything else you would like to add?" He asked causing a small laugh escape her lips. Her once wet, dreary eyes were now dry thanks to a very warm hug from Aden and a few awful jokes from John himself. "Tell me how my shoes needed to be boots because they will last in this hard terrain and that it will help me in my combat skills?"
Skylar raised a brow. "Seems you are catching on fast Aden. Pretty soon you won't even need me." She said as the boy sheathed his sword and placed its holder on a large stump that could feasibly be a table if they wished it to be. "You will have the flame and rule over our people like Lexa wanted you to do."
Aden had made his way over to his mentor on the log and sat down just a mere foot away from her. The boy looked out at the night sky and saw the stars that he always looked out at through the barrack's windows. Well if he got lucky that night and Titus or another one of the guards weren't patrolling around the room. " Do you ever think that the stars are telling you something?" He blurted out in a calm voice but taking the blonde by surprise.
She looked over at the young boy and saw his staring attentively at the sky. In the way she did all those months ago. "Yes I believe that the stars tell us things. Or guide us to what they wish for us." Skylar said as she joined the boy in his star gazing activities. "What do they tell you?" She asked softly to try and not disturb his calm demeanor.
"They always seem to make me think of the flame." He said in an unsure voice as his eyes flickered to the dewy grass under his boots than to the blue orbs that he grew to love. "That someone is needed more than me." He stated and Skylar looked over at the boy who turned his attention back to the stars. She knew what he meant and knew why he didn't say it. He didn't say he believed the stars were telling him Skylar should be the Heda because of how many times she has shot down that claim. "What do they tell you?" He asked breaking her from her train wreck of thoughts.
Skylar's eyes flicker to the brightly light up sky once again. A sigh escaped her lips, "They used to talk to me a lot. They always used to say a lost girl like me with no parents had more purpose. They led me to the Skiakru. I remember just a day before I first saw the drop ship fall to he earth. I remember it was late at night, Lincoln and I were sitting in a clearing in the woods. He was sketching the stars and I was listening to them. I remember saying I couldn't wait to find the meaning of my life."
"I just remember the stars shining so bright that night and it just kept coming into my life that tomorrow would be my first step into the life they wanted me to live. Lincoln laughed me off telling me that my destiny was to be the next Heda. But the next morning I got this urge to take a walk and within the next hour was when Skiakru crashed into the earth and spun my whole life in an 180 direction." Skylar laughed softly taking a short pause.
"The stars have never told me I am gonna be the Heda. I don't think that is my purpose. I know people wish for me to just do it. I would be good at it. Perfect for the job, and who knows maybe one day I will be forced to take on that role. But I think it is my purpose to bring the world to peace. No more fighting. No more crazy people with acid fog. And me being Heda isn't in that job description. Being Heda would mean I would not only my thoughts and morals but every single commander before me would be in my head. I need to be unbiased. I need to be fair to both sides. I just need to be Skylar. I think that's why the stars stopped talking to me. There job has been done, or at least they are done until they believe I need help again." The girl finished as she looked to her right and saw the boy looking at her in admiration.
"Maybe you are meant to be the commander. Maybe I am and I'm reading the stars all wrong but maybe there is someone else out there. Someone that will emerge when we need them the most. Or maybe it will be forced upon them. The stars never give you a paved path. Just a tiny light to guide you if you let them." Skylar said as she placed a hand on his head and swished it around to mess up the boy's hair.
"You know what else is cool about the stars?" She asked with a wide smile as the boy fixed or at least attempted to fix his hair. "There is stories about the gods and heroes of the ancient times. " She found one of the many star patterns that Bellamy told her about. "You see that cluster of stars? That is Draco. His real name was Ladon. It was this Flying lizard thing that they call a dragon and this really strong man. He is this very famous guy I guess. But he had to slay the dragon with poison arrows to get the golden apples the poor creature was guarding. This goddess named Hera had placed that dragon there and she was so sadden by his death that she placed his image into the sky." She explained as he scrunched up his nose.
"She did a bad job that don't look like any flying lizard."
