With breath like
camphor,
something rotten inside her
a spot of black faded to white at the edges
spread across her lungs
and wove through the senses.
A disease of the soul,
a spirit turned black.
Her heart misshapen and grey
left in the widening cracks
of a cage white like bone
stained yellow from the smoke.
Blistering blood
from multiple strokes,
left numb
and strangled
over laughter
like skin that is peeled
in strips
from the lashings of tongues parting
a red sea of lips
cage white like bone
stained yellow from the smoke.
Blistering blood
from multiple strokes,
left numb
and strangled
over laughter
like skin that is peeled
in strips
from the lashings of tongues parting
a red sea of lips
