Iris's POV:

I stepped quietly around the corner of the stable and caught sight of Benjamin sitting with his arm around Georgie, whispering something in her ear.  I raised my eyebrows and surpassed a smile.  They were so cute together, but how long had they been doing this and how come they didn't tell me?  I cleared my throat and folded my arms.  Both Benjamin and Georgie scrambled to their feet and apart from one another.

"Iris."  Georgie whispered, pleading with me with her eyes.

I narrowed mine at Benjamin.

"Your lucky your my best friend, otherwise I would kick you off this property."  I told Benjamin gravely, before letting my face break out in a grin.

Georgie stepped forward and gave me a huge hug.

"Thank-you for understanding."  She whispered.

"No problem, sister.  But next time, tell me, please."  I whispered in return.

Georgie stepped away and Benjamin clapped me on the back, giving me one of his sheepish grins.

"Your in big trouble, mister, if anything happens to Georgie."  I whispered, shaking my finger at him.

Benjamin just shook his head, before becoming serious.

"We should have trusted you, Iris, I'm sorry."  Benjamin apologized quietly.

"It's alright, you guys, really."  I replied, "we're in this together and there's no point in me making this into a big deal.  Now, I'm exhausted and I'm going to bed.  Good night."

I wish I could have stayed there longer and looked at the stars with them, but the responsible side of me won out and I climbed up the stairs and crawled into bed.

The following morning my alarm beeped annoyingly next to my ear.  I groaned and rolled over, forcing myself to stretch and throw the blanket off of me before I slammed my hand on the snooze button.

Why do I need to get up again?  If you don't, it will mean letting Alicia win.

That was enough to get me out of bed and ready for the day as usual.  I whipped up scrambled eggs and set the table as fast as I could, then ran outside to talk to Thunder before I ran out of time.

"Thunder, I promise I won't let Alicia win.  But I'm losing hope."  I whispered.

Thunder nickered against my hand and I shook my head.  He's just a horse.  A great horse, but he's only an animal and he can't understand what I'm doing for the both of us.

Lord, please help me to stay focused on You and what You want me to do, not what I want to do. I know You want me to show Alicia and Selina love, but I really don't want to.  Amen.

I took a deep breath and raised my head as Georgie entered the stable with Selina not far behind her.  Georgie's eyes sparkled, however there were bags under her eyes.  She needs to get a sufficient amount of sleep and Benjamin is distracting her from it.  Oh, that boy.  I miss him and Grace.

"Eggs are cold, looser."  Selina told me coldly as she stalked past me and into the tack room.

"I'll warm them up as soon as I can."  I replied in the most patient voice I could muster.

Georgie and I quickly fed each of the horses, then began exercising them as Selina trained the four that Alicia needed for the show.  Selina glared at me harder that morning and completely ignored Georgie.

After the horses were taken care of, we all shoved our food down our throats as fast as we could before jumping into the truck and driving to school.  Selina once again blared her rock music all the way there, again resulting in zero conversation.

Later that day, as I found my usual table in the cafeteria, Georgie came and joined me.  Fall decorations were everywhere, it was as if fall suddenly came overnight.  The halloween decorations had come and gone last week, but now they turned into Thanksgiving decorations.

"I wonder if we will be invited to the Adomson's Thanksgiving dance."  Georgia told me as she slid onto the chair across the table from me.

"You think Alicia would let us go if we were?" I asked, giving her an odd look, "or were you just hoping Benjamin will ask you?"

George's face broke out in a sheepish smile.

"Maybe."  She replied shyly.

I shoke my head teasingly.

"If Benjamin can find a way to see you in the middle of the night, I'm sure he can find a way to ask you to the dance." I told her, "but don't get your hopes up, Alicia will most likely find some way to keep us from going."

"I know." She answered, letting out a sigh and opening her lunch bag.

She pulled out the four sandwiches, which she had made last night while I had been at work.

"These look great, Georgie."  I told her, grinning as I took a huge bite out of my sandwich .
