We laid there, side by side in silence for a few minutes. I finally let myself relax.
Suddenly, We heard the sound of someone running up to the bales.
"Iris, Iris, are you here?" I heard Grace shout-whisper.
I sat up immediately.
"What is it, Grace, is something wrong?" I asked hastily.
I felt Jacob sit up behind me.
"Yes, you need to leave, now." Grace exclaimed urgently.
"Wait, why?" Jacob demanded.
I ignored him, pressing my lips together as I jumped off the hay bale, trying to straighten my skirt as I did so. Grace and I ran to her jeep.
"Are they leaving?" I asked.
"Only Alicia. I don't understand why, but I do know that we have to leave." Grace replied, glancing over her shoulder.
We finally reached the jeep and jumped in. We didn't even bother with seat belts as Grace started the jeep and pulled out of the parking lot. I was afraid to glance at the speed gage, so I didn't. Grace took the back road around the farm in order to avoid being seen by Alicia.
"Thank-you so much, Grace. I had an amazing night." I told her, "I'll get the clothes back to you through Benjamin."
"Don't worry about it. Keep the clothes, your welcome." Grace ordered, motioning for me to shoe as soon as she stopped the jeep on the far side of the jump course.
I jumped out and dashed across the pen as fast I could, lifting the skirt of my dress. Suddenly, my eyes caught a flicker of fire light, then the house began to burn. I kept running. I reached the gate and hoisted myself over it as best as I could with a dress on and approached the burning house. Alicia stood in front of it, throwing the match and match box into the bushes behind the house.
"Alicia! Stop!" I yelled, blinking away tears from he heat.
"What are you doing out here? And in a dress?!" Alicia growled.
"Were you trying to kill me?!" I yelled again, desperately hoping that Grace saw the fire and would call the fire department and police.
"Come here, Iris." Alicia snapped, a different fire burning in her eyes then the one burning the house.
"No!" I shouted, narrowing my eyes, shaking my skirt down and running for the hose that we used to water the horses.
I had almost reached the tap when claw-like fingers grasped my shoulders and pulled me back ward.
"Stop Alicia! Let me go!" I screamed, punching behind me.
Every time I hit her, she would only move faster. I could only imagine what she was going to do with me. The heat from the burning house stand my skin as Alicia's nails pierced it. Suddenly, I heard sirens, then everything went black.
