Chapter 6

It was a little later during the day and Riley picked up that Maya wasn't entirely herself.
And she knew about what it was.

"What did my uncle do?" Riley asked.
"I hoped we could figure something out. Avoiding each other isn't gonna work. But he is furious about what I said when I got my memory back," Maya said.
"You just got your memory back after a huge car accident," Riley said.
"Tell him that. I am going to try again but I'll have to win his trust slowly back. And I'm prepared to work on it," Maya said.
"Come on. You're Maya Penelope Hunter. Tell him what you think of him," Riley said and Maya suddenly remembers who she was.
"I'm not the same girl I was before the accident. Definitely not. Despite everything that had happened I'm actually a lot different. I know what I've been through when I was young and now that I have been through something like that accident I just realized all over again how I really feel about him. It's not soek childish crush. That I know now. Only problem is I don't think he knows how he feels," Maya said.
"Force him then. Maya if you really love him you'll fight for him. Don't show him that you've given in. If he sees that then he is..."
"He can do what he wants. I'm done fighting and if it looks like I'm giving in, so be it. I'm not fighting a losing battle," Maya said and stood up.

She went to where Shawn and Katy were with the twins and sat down.
They didn't realize Maya did sit down but Auggie did and ran to her.

"Maya."
"Yeah Bud," Maya said.
"Can't we do something? The park is quiet," Auggie said.
"Yeah let's go," Maya said and they were off.

They ran around on the grass and a bit later on it seemed like even Auggie was getting tired.
After about half an hour of running around they were done and sat down on the grass.
The park was extremely quiet for this time of year or maybe it was just a bit early.
They both drank a bottle of water and then Auggie laid down on the grass.

"Come on lazy pants. You can't be tired already," Maya said.
"I am. What about a bit of gimnastic?" Auggie asked.
"Not sure how that is gonna end but okay," Maya said and stood up.

She dusted all the soil off her clothes and looked around.
So far it is really just the Matthews and Hunters there at the park.
There were trees near each other and Maya decided to do something she never did.
She grabbed a branch and pulled herself up.
The branches were a bit high so she had to climb the three first.
She swang herself round and then she went from one branch to another.
What she didn't see is that the next branch was too far.
She jumped to grab the next branch but missed and fell.

"Daddy!" Auggie yelled and Cory looked up.
"Oh gosh. Shawn," Cory said and both of them ran to Maya.

Josh didn't realize until a bit later that Maya had gotten hurt and went after his brother.

"You okay?" Auggie asked and Maya sat up.
"Yeah. I just bumped my head. I'm fine," Maya said.
"Sweetheart. You okay?" Shawn asked as he went down next to Maya.
"Yeah. I'm okay. Really. I just fell which I have done a thousand times," Maya said and stood up but lost her balance then Cory caught her.
"You are not okay. Shawn I think we need to take her to the hospital. She could have hit her head hard," Cory said.
"Maya listen to my brother before you get hurt," Josh said.
"What do you care?" Maya said and went to her mom.

"Did you guys talk?" Cory asked.
"She thinks everything is fine now while everything is far from okay. I need to get some air," Josh said and was gone.

"You okay Baby Girl?" Katy asked.
"Yeah I'm fine. I fell a hundred times before. Auggie overreacted."
