Archie woke up, confused at first to where he was. His face was immersed in a mass of black Curley hair; his arms were wrapped around something warm, soft, yet slightly too boney. The smell of a familiar minty shampoo filled his head, he swore he could even taste it; his ears were met by the lazy breaths coming from infant of him. He released with a smile that Jughead was was next to him. His Jughead. But his expression turned sour as he relied that maybe Jughead wouldn't be comfortable with this full frontal contact. Jughead had always been a bit funny about people touching him, he flinched at advances of contact and shied away at touch. Archie had always been careful not to breach any of these unspoken boundaries, but looking now at the gentle rise and fall of the boy's chest from a front row position, his mind struggled to let him move away.
Jughead's eyes fluttered open, scanning the undisturbed peace that lay around him. His eyes fell to the soft, brown ones that lay infant of him but made little attempt to break the silence. Jughead admired how the delicate light from the rising sun graced the elegant features if the others not yet fully awakened face. But he brushed those thoughts aside, creating more distance between them. Archie, noticing the change in atmosphere, sat up, looking away to the place they'd left the night before.
"I should be off", Jughead mumbled as he wiped sleep from his eyes. Archie continued to to look away. "Thanks for everything. I need to get changed before school, meet you there?" he questioned hesitantly.
"Sure", Archie sighed, dispersing the tension that had been constricting the air flow. Archie's expression softened as he heard the door close, leaving him to his thoughts.
