Her eyes instantly opened in the clash of thunder, followed by a streak of lightning as sharp as a knife. The rain was pouring hard as it clattered on the thick roof. Hermione inhaled the cold air, oxygen entering her lungs as she shivered under the soft, thick blankets. Exhaling, she closed her eyes, deciding to continue her interrupted slumber, until she heard a soft whimper.
Hermione turned to her side. The soft light illuminating from a small window near the bed made her caught the sight of a pale skin under disheveled, platinum hair, his chest moving up and down quicker than her own heartbeat.
"Draco?" She shifted her position, an elbow supporting her torso, "are you alright?"
The sound of the splattering rain on the roof continued to penetrate the cold, dim room, but her voice could be heard enough for him to rotate so he could see her face. Draco saw her worried eyes as she pursed her lips and tucked a hair behind her ear.
Another thunder cackled, causing Draco to jump out of his skin and clench his fists tight beside him. Hermione felt the tension in his muscles, making her cast an anxious look at him.
"I can no longer sleep…" he whispered in between crashes of thunder and pattering deluge.
Immediately, Hermione's anxious expression turned softer. As a smile formed on her face, she moved a few more inches closer to his body, put a hand on his heaving chest, while the other around his head. Her lean hand caressed his messy hair as she stared into his gray eyes. He did the same as he locked his gaze into her brown ones.
The feeling of Hermione's hand gently touching his hair somehow made Draco feel calmer, more placid than after he had just woken up from a terrible nightmare and the loud roarings coming from the outside of the room.
"My mother used to hum to me a lullaby whenever I was scared, especially of thunders and nightmares…" she whispered softly.
Amidst the thunder outside of their glass window, Hermione's lullaby reached Draco's heart, making him release all the tension in his body and relax his mind. The fear he was holding on to moments ago was no longer hinged to him, as he kept his eyes closed to focus only on her voice. Focus on Hermione.
"Are you feeling any better?" She asked, a hand still caressing his platinum hair.
Draco opened his eyes and shifted to look at her and replied, "A lot...".
Satisfied with his response, Hermione leaned forward until her soft lips touched his cold cheek. It was a quick kiss, like a peck on the cheek. She smiled as she pulled away, but what he did next surprised her. Draco pulled her closer with his hand on the back of her head, and kissed her full on the mouth. With eyes closed, he moved his mouth with hers with the rhythm of the heavy raindrops echoing in his ears. She followed his every move as she curled her hand onto his wrinkled night clothes.
Hermione moved and pulled away from the kiss, a smile plastered on her face illuminated by the soft light. She watched as he, too, watched her. Draco scooped her into his arms, subsequently Hermione stirring her body next to him and placed an arm around his stomach.
For the rest of the night, the raindrops continued dropping hard on their roof. They slumbered peacefully, ignoring the thunders and rain and went off to dreamland.
