Jayla's POV

I had gotten changed and met Alec and Clary into the training room.

"Looks like we're stuck with each other," She sighed as Alec grabbed a pole. I sat down watching them. "For what's it's worth, I think your mum was too tough on you out there." She added "Mothers are like" Alec said "Mine's not. Go ahead. Knock me on my ass you'll feel better," Clary said "Don't make me say you're right at something" Alec said "Clary your mother treated you like a mundane that's why she isn't like that." I stated "Plant your feet wide," He order Clary. "Why did you let your mom say all those awful things about Izzy?" She asked blocking Alec's attack. "Don't step into the strike step through it. Izzy was out of bounds. The law is hard but it;s the law. Even I forget that sometimes." Alec told her "So, you're just going to send Jace out instead of you?" Clary questioned struggling to block Alec's strikes "If I screw up, I expect to be punished I'm supposed to be a leader." Alec told her. "You know what leaders do, Alec? Make decisions. You need to find Valentine and stop him. I need to find Valentine and help save my mother " She said I rolled my eyes. How easy does she think it is. Valentine is evil and I want him murdered. "Clary it isn't that easy. He's really dangerous and wants to kill all the downworld. He's strong," I said. Alec had manged to get Clary onto the floor. "You need to work on your defence" He said looking down at her. She chuckled and he reached his hand out of her. She grabbed it and he helped her up "What do you think? Do you think we haven't been trying to find your mother?" Alec asked her "Of course you have. But I know you can colour outside the lines. You're just not letting yourself think that way." Clary told him as he was picking up the other stick. "Oh, yeah? What's the big thought I'm not thinking?" He asked throwing her the stick. "We can still find Valentine. I might know a way.  My mother hid a lot from me, but I did see one thing... there's a box. She didn't think I knew about it. But she opened it once a year and cried." Clary said "'Cause?" He questioned "It belonged to our father" Clary added "It had his initials JC, On top" she said "But your father was Valentine, Why JC" Alec asked. "Because for 18 years, she told us his name was Jonathan Clark." Clary told us "Whatever was in that box meant a lot for her." She added "Maybe there's something inside that could help us track him," Clary said "Where can we find the box?" Alec asked "Back in the loft. Let's go get it" Clary said as Alec's phone began ringing. "Absolutely not. Not without permission." He said before leaving to take the call. I looked away for two seconds and she gone, the stick on the floor.

Alec looked at me "She just left." I told him "Where did she go?" "Probably to the loft, to go get that box." I said "C 'mon then," He said we both left the institute and Alec tracked her.

She was stood outside of the New York Academy of Art with her phone ringing. "Why'd you run out? And whats the point of an invisibility rune if you don't silence you phone," Alec said "That was childish sneaking out like that," He continued. Clary ignored him and answered the phone "Simon. Hey. I know I should have called you right back. I'm really sorry. Are you okay? Yeah I totally get it. Um, can we talk later? Things are kind of insane right now. I.. I kind of killed a demon and lost all my memories forever. So...I'm at the Brooklyn Academy." She was talking to Simon. "Hang up. That's it, we have to go. Right now." Alec told her. She hung up. "Mundanes. Look at them. Running around like ants. Let's go" He said and started walking. I followed him "Why do you always look so miserable?" Clary asked "I don't" He argued "You do. It must be hard being in love with Jace and he's straight and everything." Clary said "Clary! Jace is his parabatai of course he's going to love him more than me, their bond is special, if it was to break they both die inside." I said "I was there when that memory came out. Busted, no?" She said "We're parabatai like Jay said." He told her "Alec, just say it, you'll feel better. You're in love with Jace," She urged "Forget it. You know what? You're in love with Jace" Alec said "Oh, okay? The middle school comeback? Nice." "Alec, we have a real problem to solve, okay? Come with me." She said. I sighed and we both followed her.

"Hey, you. Oh, thanks for being here," Clary said hugging Simon "You don't need to do this alone. It's not who we are" He said looking at Clary, "Are you sure, you're feeling up to this?" Clary asked him "Yeah, it's just a cold not the end of the world" He told us "The world has been ending for thousands of years. Ah, you get used to it. Now, we need to move." Alec said "Yeah, my moms loft is just across the alley" Clary said "All right, well , we have to be careful. There are eyes all over this place and everybody is in the Shadow World's looking for both of you." Alec said "I mean, I can guarantee you, no one's going to this shortcut. I used to take it back in middle school to see Clary. " Simon said "You might know the Shadow World but I know Brooklyn. Come on," He said and jumped the wall. We all stared at him in shock. "Let's get this over with," I said.
