Cerian.
The secrecy was killing me and sure as hell wanted to slap the mischievous smirk off Corey's face. I had no clue where we were going because the bastard won't tell me. "Just play candy crush on your phone till we get there," He suggested, "If you still feel bored, count the number of cars we pass or we can play who stole the cookies,""Your crap at giving suggestions."
"Fine, we can listen to music. Oh look," He leaned over the console and cranked up the volume on the radio. "Your song's playing, stop scowling."
"I would if you just told me where we are going." I argued and Corey shook his head. I knew he wouldn't tell me,no matter how hard or pathetic I begged so I just dropped it .
"Hey we are here," I felt Corey nudge my arm, " Wake up sleepy head,"
I blinked my eyes open and sat up feeling a bit confused. I don't know how I fell asleep, the last thing I remember was counting cars. When I looked around,I felt a wave of nostalgia hit me. I've been here before. The neat parking lot, well kept cypress hedge that surrounded the compound, large porcelain statue of the virgin Mary at the center of the parking lot and the large chateau up on a hill.
This was St Anne's Children's home,I came here once but didn't make it past the parking lot because I was waiting for Denver. The idiot didn't show up and I got cold feet and went back home. Why did Corey bring me here anyways?
"What are we doing here?" I asked while unfastening my belt then stepped out of the car.
"This was my home. Still is," Corey answerd, "Plus, since you wanted kids so much, how about spending an entire day surrounded by them. Could give you an insight of how the adoption process really works,"
Sometimes I think Corey was an angel sent on this earth just for me. I was a mess before he came into my life and now that he's here. I feel like my life has purpose again. Thanks to him, I can overstep my boundaries like walk into a children's home. Something I was scared to do on my own.
With our hands intertwined, the two of us walked up the stairs leading to the chateau , it was even more beautiful inside than it was out.
It had shiny well polished wooden floors, large windows ,on the walls were drawings of rainbows, clouds, children holding hands and a huge mosaic of Jesus in the company of ten - fifteen children.
We were at the reception, there was a middle aged nun behind the reception desk, going through some files that she hardly noticed us walk in. I also got myself occupied by looking at the paintings and pictures hung on the wall. The center was established in 1863. That's a long time. Corey walked over to the desk and gently tapped, pulling the nun's attention to us.
"Picasso!" She beamed " I can't believe you came,it's been months, how are you and who's the lovely gentleman?"
Picasso?
"I'm good, sister Joan. " Corey answerd with a smile, "This is my friend,Cerian. Cerian, she's sister Joan, my second mum."
"Its a pleasure meeting you," I said, stretching my hand over to shake her hand. She was friendly.
"Is Nana in,I was hoping my friend and I would spend sometime with the kids. He wishes to adopt one in the future ."
"Nana went to Rome a few days ago and since I trust you,I'll let you guys in. Oh and before you go,how's little Bree? "
"She's good, heard her say, she'll swing by with Richie in a few weeks time. Thanks for letting us in,"
"Don't mention it,you're one of us and your friend looks trustworthy. Call me if you need anything."
