The appetizers and entrees arrive all at once. Jungkook instructed the waiter to do so because he knew it was getting late and that we had an early morning ahead of us.
Every single dish had its flair in design and color. The porcelain dishes painted with bright reds, blues, and gold depicted beautiful stories with realistic paintings of animals in nature.
The foie gras was plated in the center. Truffle oil drizzled over with a touch of caviar and a stick of rosemary on top. Light and crispbread surrounded the pink spread.
Jungkook grabbed a slice and globbed on a knife-full, delicately covering the entire top with the creamy goodness. He places the masterpiece in front of my face, and I reach to grab it. He pulls back slightly, and I frown at him. He smiles with his mouth open, and I copy him, he places the bread into my mouth, and I bite down. Slowly, I start chewing, and my eyes light up and are brought to a smile. I have never had foie gras before, so I did not know what to expect from the liver paste. It wasn't too salty nor peppery, and it was the right amount of flavor.
Next was the onion soup, one of my favorite dishes. I honestly can make this at home, but it takes too long to make the soup and then baking the cheese and bread in the oven. I can see why it took a while for this to come out. I was so engrossed into eating that I didn't even notice that Jungkook and I were eating out of the same bowl. I stopped as soon as I did, and moved onto the champion pizza.
I didn't know the French also made pizzas. This pizza was different. It had a cream sauce instead of the usual tomato-basil blend. I picked up a slice, and hot cheese was oozing down from the sides. Taking a quick whiff of the garlic and mushroom aroma, I bit into the hot food and fell in love yet again. Who knew a creamy pizza with a buttered crunchy crust would change the game?
I gaze over at Jungkook, who already finished the soup and was onto his second slice of pizza. He's chewing on the cheese pulls, and it's never-ending. Pull after pull, the cheese kept coming, and he started to get annoyed. He shoves the rest of his slice, including the crust into his mouth and his cheeks puff up. I laugh at the sight in front of me, and he smiles back.
As he continues chewing on his mouthful of pizza, he begins to cut into the steak and gestures for me to pass him my plate. He places a few generous cuts onto my plate, fanning the meat out with his knife and fork and adding the veggies and frites around the juicy slices.
I wait for him to finish plating his own before taking my first bite of our last entree. The meat was tender, and it melted in my mouth, each bite felt like a new experience.
"This meal is honestly the best meal I've ever had. Thank you, Jungkook!" I thank him, still stuffing myself with the food around us.
He chuckles, also mouth full of food, "My pleasure, neighbor. So tell me more about yourself." He says.
We spend the rest of the dinner talking about each other's passions, bonding over our interests in the creative field. I learned that Jungkook was actually from the south, Busan to be exact. He and his mother resided there during his childhood while his father worked in Seoul.
He finally moved to Seoul when he started high school at a private art institution. His father didn't think much of it because the school excelled in STEM. It was one of the best in the country. There, Jungkook flourished in the arts and began his journey exploring different mediums, from videography to painting.
I also told Jungkook about my artistic journey. My parents never gave the impression that I should become a doctor or lawyer; they just wanted me to be happy. When I told them I wanted to pursue art, they were a bit doubtful but still let me major in it since it was my interest. I completed my degree in communication arts and decided to steer my career in a direction where I could make art but also have a "real job" in their eyes, which is how I landed in Jeoneration as a creative marketing strategist.
