The sun shone down one the brilliantly green grass below.
Colorful birds squawked while sitting atop their tree-branch perches.
Large insects buzzed around.
Small lizards and snakes slithered through the grass.
A house sat nearby.
There was nothing extraordinary about this house from the outside, other than its material making up that walls, which was logs.
Inside, there was nothing too special either. Just walls, a ceiling, a floor, an attic, a basement, furniture, beds, etc, etc.
However, the inhabitants were an entirely different matter.
They had snouts full of sharp teeth and forked tongues, tipped with two powerful nostrils, colorful eyes with vertical slits for pupils, two large, bony wings on either side of their body, sharp talons, and long tails.
They were dragons.
There was two of them, a green one, and a white one. Although they were both dragons, they looked drastically different.
The green one was named Firewing. She had shiny green fireproof scales, glowing yellow slitted eyes, fire breath, leathery wings (Only when she wanted to, as she had retractable wing bones), spikes running down her back, and a scaly serpentine tail. However, unlike the traditional dragons of myth and legend, she walked upright on her hind legs (her only legs, actually, as she was a wyvern, and used her wings like arms). She was quite young, only about 10 years of age. (Her kind of dragon became an adult at 20.)
The white dragon was named Snowy, although it was very hard to tell she was a dragon. Unlike Firewing, she didn't even have scales or breathe fire. She looked like an odd cross between a white bird and a dolphin, as her body was covered in white, fluffy waterproof feathers, had two large wings, two legs (Snowy was a wyvern as well) and a dolphin-like tail, covered in feathers. She was also barely larger than a cat.
Yet the two of them were dragons nonetheless. And the story of how they met was even stranger than the fact that they were dragons.
Snowy used to live in the cold, Arctic north, where 8 months out of 12 there was snow on the ground. She was the kind of dragon that dove into freezing water to catch little fish for dinner. She has lived with her family in a nice little house the size of a doghouse by a small, freezing pond the size of a swimming pool. However, one day, she said that her home had been destroyed. She had been too panicked to remember what it was that changed her life forever. All she remembered was trying to migrate to a new, safe spot with her family, and getting lost. She had wound up separated from her family, and has somehow wound up at the tropical coastal town of Fangside, Dracacea. She had bought a large house, the size for a dragon a little smaller than a normal, 20-foot long one because few dragons like her lived in the tropics.
Meanwhile, Firewing had finally convinced her parents to let her leave them and live her own life. After wandering for a day, she came across Snowy's new house, and they had met each other and talked and talked. They became good friends, and Snowy let Firewing move in. She was that kind of dragon.
However, Snowy, Firewing, and their families were far from the only dragons in the world. Dragons ruled here. They were the people of this world.
Their world.
The Dragon Realm.
