Sitting in an unknown shed wasn't doing me any good. No music. No books. No network connections. The thunderous atmosphere just seemed to kick back the summer break feeling. Letting out a sigh I pushed myself off the wall and walked towards the door. Ready to start running in the rain. I had no interest in burning calories nor did I have any interest in spending the next five minutes looking at the rain.

"And what do you think you're doing?" Nikki poked me in the ribs.

" I'm done waiting, I'm going out."

"Out where?" she turned her head to the side revealing a pair of zapping blue eyes, a colour I'd never thought I'd get used to. "Rain's fun, Kat. Plus I'm wearing my favourite Black Veil Brides t-shirt. And you don't just run out in the rain wearing Band Merch. It's a sin."

I rolled my eyes.

"Well, here's my hoodie." I said tossing her my favorite black hoodie.

"You don't give your hoodies to anyone," she stated but put it on anyway. "Guess since we just begun our summer break, I'm pretty sure you're eager to go home to mama knows what."

I resisted the urge to roll my eyes again and made my way out of the broken shed. I was still getting used to the town life compared to the big city one I had in New York. I didn't know anybody's name in my class, nor had I bothered to ask. Nikki had taken me under her wing and that about summed up my social life.

"Hey, bookie. I think we missed a left,"Nikki's voice brought me back to reality.

"Don't call me that,"I snapped.

"Oh? I have three questions for you. Be honest"

"Shoot"

"Who do you love the most?"

"Books. Music. Diet Coke." I said knowing that the answer would tick her off.

"See?" Nikki stopped to splash a leg in a puddle. "That's selfish. Next you'd be telling me you want to marry my bed."

"I do want to marry your bed." I winked. "It's heaven."

Nikki stuck out her tongue. Childish but expected from Nikki.

"Have you ever done anything normal before you shifted here?" She threw the question casually not bothering to really run anymore. But her words hit me as if she'd dunk me in a bathtub of ice. I did normal things. I read novels like my life depended on them, I'd drown in music ignoring the world. I went shopping, occasionally. In these two years at West Wordsworth I'd done a lot of normal things. But before that was a different chapter. A different book itself. A completed saga that would never be opened. Not even by my brother.

"I'm just glad Brian took us in." I said flatly.

"Kat." Nikki's voice faltered. She had tried numerous times trying to get me talk about New York but each time I shut her out. She'd stopped asking and we strolled down the usual best friend lane safely. The horrors of New York, stayed in New York. It was done. I was safe. I refused to let myself coil back into the dark recesses of my mind where I relived each memory, each marking.

I gave Nikki a look that shut her down from asking any more than she already did. Nikki shook her head.

"That's not what I meant, Kat." She said softly. "I just wanted to know whether you had fun or not."

"Maybe I did."

"Excuse me." The sudden appearance of a new voice startled me.

Nikki and I both turned around to see the person behind the voice. I heard Nikki gasp beside me. I couldn't find a reason not to. The voice belonged to a really good face. I scrunched up my nose at the thought. Probably a major understatement. 'Good face' wasn't the word I'd use, but I didn't think my brain could call upon any more words. A pair of green eyes looked down on me. I could see the intruder properly. His eyes were a between of emerald and sea green. Waves of dark hair swept over his forehead. His thick eyebrows were creased in a frown. He looked towards Nikki.
