Chapter 6 - The Human Paradise

August, 1972 - Narrator: Roger Keith (Syd) Barrett

I locked the door and sat on the bathroom floor. I watched quietly each of the small cubes of sugar that I had on hand, all of them full of acid. I felt uncertain whether it was right to keep doing it, get away from everything and everyone with the help of drugs.

I stopped getting running this same thing in my mind and put the first cube in my mouth, let it melt slowly in my saliva. It was so magical that I could not control myself. Then it was the second cube, third, fourth, fifth and sixth. All this in small intervals of one second. I closed my eyes and began to ignore the loud music that played in the apartment. My little escape from reality was just beginning...

I felt the sweet and glorious taste of acid seeping into my mouth. I quickly felt out of reality, was a quick trip. This time.

It was my only way to get away from so many things that haunted me in this world. Ah! I closed my eyes and slowly it began as a sweet reminder:

I stood on a ladder. It was really huge, never seemed to end. I looked down, but there was only a dark hole, I looked up and it was the same thing. I felt a slight tremor coming under my feet. I looked... Shit! The ladder was falling apart. I started to run up, but it seemed impossible because all the steps I trod, is shattered. I glanced down the pieces of wood of the steps that fall is transformed... in... in... Damn! Was albatrosses! I hate these critters!

I lost a lot of time looking at those hideous creatures. The step where I was completely shattered and I began to fall into a dark hole, I had no idea where they would go. I saw and heard was me laughing albatrosses. Falling in slow motion I looked at one by one of those nasty things.

I closed my eyes. I wondered if it was the end?

Drops like a sack of potatoes somewhere. That hurt a lot. Ran my hands around and felt... grass! Slowly opened my eyes, I saw a blue horizon, and I'm not speaking from heaven (in the case had a beautiful orange color.) The grass was completely blue... blue as the sea.

I got up and sat watching carefully the landscape. I saw a beautiful girl looking at me. She was a bit far, but even so I could see. She hid behind a tree with red leaves as soon as he realized I was watching her. I could hear only the wind and with a shy laugh.

It looked like she was laughing in my ear.

I got up and runs to the tree. That place had that wonderful sound of the leaves of trees in friction caused by the wind. They were so long that I did not walk through a field like this, it was great.

As soon as he saw me approaching her, she took a few steps back. Had a splendid smile, it made me smile too. But in my head my brain screamed at me that I had seen her somewhere, but my doubt was if it was in my other hallucination or if it really existed. But it stopped bothering me with this, I just wanted to play with her for this huge blue field.

- Do not be afraid, I will not hurt you... - I said quietly approaching me. She seemed not to have understood.

The girl ran across the field. Her long dress blue sky seemed to match the pitch, her long hair as golden as the sunlight danced with the wind.

I started running after her.

- What is your name? - I screamed.

She stopped running and turned toward me.

- Oh its silly, I'm Emily. - Sher said. Her voice sounded sweetly in my ears.

She ran toward a mountain entirely white.
