The Neighborhood I Once Knew

Chapter 3

Since it is my first day at work today I need to look clean and beautiful. I picked out a oversized white t-shirt with black heels that have straps and a cute black side back just to match.I got in the shower making sure I'm extra clean and exfoliate my whole body. I spent a few more minutes in the bathroom doing my makeup not too much just natural looking. When I was done I got dressed and added a pair of sunglasses. Surprisingly my dad wasn't up yet so I made my own breakfast. Cereal will do today I'm not trying to spend a whole hour in the kitchen. When I was done eating  I walked to my dad's room.
"Dad I'm headed to work I'll see you later ok"
"Ok baby I left some money on the kithen counter for you,you can use it to fill up your tank"
"Thanks dad..bye" damn I totally forgot I had to fill up that car since it's mine now. I took the money and went to work. Simmy had already opened up the shop and there were a few customers inside.

"Good Morning boss" I jokingly said
"Yuhh that sounds good you can call me that.You look so cute today"
"Thank you friend well as for you Vogue needs to call you for a fashion photo shoot cause you're always looking stylish"
"Girl you never know who might walk inside this shop who knows I might meet my husband here so I need to look like a boss bitch "
He walked towards the till and I followed behind  him he showed my how the machine works and how I scan products being bought. It seemed pretty easy. He than showed me were different genres of music where packed and basically how everything works.

"Ok honey I think I've showed you everything I needed to show you, if you have questions just let me know. I'll just go and pack these new CDs on the shelve"
"Ok, thanks."
I went behind the till waiting for anyone to buy anything. I kept myself busy by sticking price tags on some of the products.A few minutes passed and I was actually enjoying myself there was music playing in the back ground and I got to choose the tracks I could play.I just liked how chilled it was and it wasn't too busy, just a few customers purchased and looked around.
"Mmmhhh" I heard Simmy making a sound.I wasn't paying any attention he was probably clearing his throat.
"Excuse me ma " It was a deep familiar voice I quickly lifted my head to look who it was..(be cool be cool you've got this)
"Hiii  August... how can I help you?" That sounded so bad come on Lyric you can do better.
"I make you nervous or something"
"I think so" I replied shyly, why did I even admit that I'm so dum.
"Good....well I want to upgrade my playlist and I don't know what to get"
"Well what type of music do you listen to"
"Hip hop just pure nice rap music"
"Well I can show you around and maybe find something that you might like." I walked around the till to the shelves. I could feel Simmys eyes piercing through my skin I guess he was trying to warn me that August was entering when he made that weird sound.
"August come this side" he came closer to me, too close for my liking.
"So who told you my name ma, do you even know what I'm about"
"My friend told me...I heard a few scary things is it true what they say about you.?"
"Well if it makes you scared than ya it is"
I pulled out a CD
"Well  this is Meeks Mills new album Championship I think you going to like it. He basically raps about the hood and the struggles he faced growing up. Selling drugs and using guns and how he made it out. Police brutality basically everything you as a black man can relate to."
"Sounds like the kind of shit I would listen to,I'll get it"
"Ok well let me scan it for you and put it in the paper bag" I said as I walked towards the till and did just that. I could sense he was staring at me I wonder what he's thinking.
"So Lyric why did you leave this place anyways ?"
"My parents separated so my mother and I moved to the City, I came back to fix my relationship with my dad"
"I'm sorry to hear that ma, but you look strong I'm sure you can handle anything"
"Thank you Oh and here's your package" he gave me more than the actual price of the album.
"Keep the change, I'll see you around"
"Bye August" I watched  him walk out..he was so damn  good looking I couldn't help myself but stare .

"Girl you were so awkward what is wrong with you" I heard Simmy say as he walked towards me.
"I just get so nervous and scared around him I don't know what it is"
"He is definitely feeling you girl and he probably wants to tap that ass"
"You always got some slick shit to say Simmy,get out of my face" I said laughing. I got back to what I was doing before I knew it it was 1pm in the afternoon and it was time for lunch.Simmy and I headed to McDonald's I orderd the usual Big Mac burger with fries and sprite,Simmy got the same thing but with coke.
"So how are you liking everything so far?" Simmy asked
"It's cool I'm actually enjoying being here  I might stay for a few months,  honestly I didn't expect things to go so well between my father and I"
"Why do you say that?"
"I mean you remember how my dad was such a mess back in the days how my parents used to argue so much.It would tear me apart and you would invite me over to your house"
"Girl I remember it like it was yesterday, I'm just glad you're in a better place now.I'm  glad I have my bestfriend back"
"Ahh thank you friend" we finally got our food and didn't   waste time on eating.I'm  just glad he loved food just like I did.
"So....there's  this party it's going down tonight and I would really love for you to come please."
"Of cause I need to get a bit drunk and let lose"
"Yaas bitch I'm loving this new energy" Simmy  shouted and I couldn't help but laugh out loud.We got the usual stares from people. But we never really cared he was such a fun person to be around.
"We have to look cute and stunt on these hoes, don't dissapoint me Lyric"
"Trust me I won't,  come to my place so my dad will see that I'm actually with a friend"
We finished our food and headed back to the store.It wasn't busy for the rest of the afternoon. We just made sure that the shelves were neatly packed and everything was in order. When it was time to leave Simmy locked up the store and we said our goodbyes. Since I'll  be going out I need to cook something delicious for dinner just to soften up my dad. When I got home I decided to get started with dinner. I took the chicken out of the deep freezer and defrost it by letting it sit in boiling hot water for a few minutes. I chopped my vegetables and mixed them all in the pot and added the chicken afterwards. I added some salt and a few spices, my chicken stew was turning out great. I cooked white rice on the side. And also decided to make corn as my side.I boiled it for a few minutes.
