Both Emmilia and Lady Nefare walked into the large room. Emmilia sat at the lonely desk next to the chalkboard and put her hand under her chin. Lady Nefare walked straight with her nose high up in the air as she stood next to the chalkboard.
"Emmilia," She said. "Sit up straight, like a proper lady."
Emmilia huffed and sat as straight as she possibly could giving a sarcastic grin.
"Is that better?" Emmilia asked.
"Yes, actually," Lady Nefare applauded. "Just a little less attitude."
"Now, what was your homework yesterday?" Lady Nefare asked.
"The history of plant life in Humlik," Emmilia said with a slight sigh at the end. "Why do I have to do lessons today?" Emmilia whined as she threw her body backward onto the back of the chair. She groaned as her back popped.
"Emmilia," Lady Nefare shouted. "Sit up, right this instant!" Emmilia did as she was told, but continued to whine about her lessons.
"Since you said you studied last night, let's go over just a few of them," Lady nefare said. "What is the most famous plant in all of Humlik?" Lady Nefare asked.
"The running tree," Emmilia sighed.
"Does it run?"
"Only when provoked."
"Good job!" Lady Nefare said a little too cheerfully.
"Now, onto some of the harder questions," Lady Nefare said while clearing her throat.
"What is a dragon bone bush?" Emmilia's face scrunched up, as she tried to think.
"Oh," She finally exclaimed. "A dragon bone bush is the dead form of this really mean plant the dragon bush. The dragon bush when threatened, or sometimes when it just wants to, shoots it's super deadly thorns. The only way that you can be cured by its poison is by placing a dragon bone bush's dried up thorn on the wound," Emmilia answered.
"Good job!" Lady Nefare said again. "But with the next answer use proper words. No, 'super' or 'really mean', use very and aggressive, instead" Lady Nefare said as an almost unnoticeable smile appeared on her face. Almost as quickly as it had appeared it vanished.
"Oh, Gods," Emmilia sighed. "I'm already messing up," she said as she sighed under breath. Lady Nefare didn't say anything about the comment, but just gave a look that said I told you so.
"What is cat moss?" Lady Nefare asked.
"Cat moss is a moss that resembles," She paused for a moment excited. "I used a fancy word. Anyways Cat moss is a moss that resembles cat's fur. It can be used in a lot medicines but is usually used as a headache reliever. It grows on the sides of almost any tree and rock," Emmilia answered.
"Good job! Now, what is dog moss?"
"Dog moss is a type of moss that eats and chases the cat moss up trees and rocks." Emmilia said excited that Lady Nefare had no issues with her previous answer.
"Now, on to a hard one. What is the rarest most elusive plant in Humlik?" Lady Nefare asked. Emmilia's face scrunched up even harder. Her ears started to turn a bright red.
"I-I," she stammered. "I don't know," she finished. Her face went red with embarrassment, her head fell as she looked at her black shoes.
"And you said you studied," Lady Nefare said as she shook her head and smiled. "I guess we're going to have to have extra homework tonight, and your homework for today."
"What was the answer, Aunt?" Emmilia asked disappointed in herself.
"The ghost tree-'' Lady Nefare started.
"Oh, right right, the tree where if you look at it for too long it becomes vapor and disappears!" Emmilia finished.
"Emmilia, do not interrupt your elders!" Lady Nefare said raising her voice.
"Sorry, aunt Nefare."
"I didn't correct you last time you called me aunt, but you are supposed to call me Lady," Lady Nefare corrected.
"But you are my aunt."
"But you are supposed to address me by my title during the day."
"I'm sorry, Lady Nefare," Emmilia said rolling her eyes just a smidge as she said, Lady. Lady Nefare erased the board and wrote 4 different traditions of the four races.
"Aren't there five races?" Emmilia asked.
"Yes, but demons are such savages that they cannot comprehend having traditions like the rest of the races," Lady Nefare said while fixing her gown nervously.
"Now, the most important holiday in the human society is-" Lady Nefare said as she wrote down the Festival of lights.
"Festival of Lights is a celebration of people giving, loving, and celebrating. It is celebrated with the giving of presents and home-cooked meals. Every person brings their family recipe and cooks it themselves."
"Why do I need to know this?" Emmilia questioned.
"Because someday you are going to the next ruler of Humlik, and you have to know the traditions of the other three respected kingdoms," Lady Nefare said sternly.
"Oh, okay."
"You receive presents from people in the town square of every town or their respective meeting place. The entirety of this place is sparkling with white lights, and the presents are decorated with white wrapping paper. Only one special present with a bow placed on top is given to the person you love the most. If you can't choose between your parents or siblings then you write all of their names on it. The bigger and brighter the bow the stronger the love."
"I already know all of this, because we celebrate it every year," Emmilia stated.
"Well, it is coming up in a couple of months, and you should know the history of it," Lady Nefare answered.
"But I already know the history, some super, duper old guy way, way back in the olden times gave his soon-to-be wife a wedding ring wrapped in white wrapping paper, and a gigantic bow. This bow was huge, like bigger than himself, and he was really tall. He gave it to his soon-to-be wife, and she said yes. She told all of her friends and family, and they started to do it, too. It spread across all of Humlik and became the festival of lights." Emmilia rambled.
"Well, that's good. It is still good to refresh your memory and the entire history of it. The names and dates and all that!" Lady Nefare said in a fake enthusiastic voice.
"Uhhh..." Emmilia groaned.
