I couldn't stop thinking about the whole "Sweet Pea" thing. My God, it was like this new person had taken over my mind and was doing things that I normally would never do. I just needed to relax.
I walked home by myself, not by choice obviously. The football team had called a mandatory meeting right after school, so Jim had to stay behind and leave me to walk alone.
I mean, I'm not complaining, it gave me a little time to think. Mainly about what the hell Jim was planning. I know, it's a tad obsessive, but come on. Wouldn't you want your boyfriend to tell you why he was acting so different around you all of a sudden?
I was walking down Ballio Drive when I turned around and saw a black BMW with tinted windows driving ten times slower than the speed limit. The person who was operating the vehicle had intended on following me.
I sped up my pace a little bit. I tried not to look back.
"You're almost there," I said under my breath, "don't freak out when you don't have to."
As I sped up, the car did too. Why was this person following me? Or.. were they targeting me?
I read articles and watched news headlines talking about teenagers getting followed by suspicious vehicles and then getting raped. I wasn't an idiot, but I also wasn't going to let myself get raped or victimized.
"Just one more street." I tried to breathe. "One more. "
As I slowly inched toward my house, the car did not turn a corner or go in the other direction. Whoever this was, they knew who they wanted to follow.
My only question: Why me?
My house was only two blocks away, but the BMW kept it's pace. What more could I do?
I heard the car pull over and I heard the engine stop. That's when the car door opened.
I didn't look to see who it was. I didn't look back at all.
I ran.
Ran as fast as a mother fucker could.
