N I N E
EVANGELINE
I was so tired of him telling me what to do. He was always in control of where I went, when I went there, who I was with...how could I ever want to marry him? He wanted to deal with this now? Fuck him. I declined the call and put my phone back in the robe pocket.
I turned and looked at Hazel, tears welled up in my eyes. "Fuck him." She smiled and gave me one of her warm, bear hugs. "I'm so tired of him trying to tell me what to do, Hazel."
"I know, honey, and you're doing amazing," she whispered. "Just focus on what's happening with you right now, okay? You have a smoking hot husband, remember?" I chuckled and nodded, turning to Beckett who was waiting with open arms to receive me.
He barely knows me and here he is, comforting me about something he has no clue of . He really is into this, he really doesn't want a divorce.
I took a deep breath and sighed; he smelt really good. Beckett tan his fingers through my hair and kissed my forehead. "We'll figure it out as we go," he whispered. "Take it day by day."
I nodded and pulled away. "I need some clothes." I walked into the bedroom that Hazel and I shared, grabbing a pair of jeans and one of my Green Day shirts, slipping them on and walking back out.
"Things have been hard on her," I heard Hazel say. "Ryan is a dick, always has been and always will be; even though his family says they're disgusted by what he did, they still welcome him and his tramp with open arms on every family function," she sighed and continued, "Eva is strong, but she'd never admit that she's also sensitive, she seeks for the approval of others more than anything. She dated Ryan because our parents wanted her to be with someone in law, she put up with his shit because she convinced herself that she loved him, and she even came here because she knew it's what I wanted."
"She's guarded right now because of what has happened," said Lynn, "But she'll come around eventually once she sees you don't plan on giving her up."
"I don't," Beckett agreed, "if I ever see him she's going to have to bail me out of jail," he chuckled. Why the fuck does he care so much?! This shit is literally mind-boggling!
Just so that I didn't hear any more of this conversation, I chose now to walk in; Beckett and I really needed a heart to heart anyway. "Beckett can I speak to you for a minute?" He nodded and excused himself before I led him to the bedroom I had just exited.
"Is everything alright?"
"Why won't you just agree to a fucking divorce?" I crossed my arms and looked at him pointedly. "How is this supposed to work? Where do we live? What do we do?" He sighed and walked over to me, placing his hands on my tense shoulders and beginning to massage them gently. He turned me around, moving my hair to the side before he continued, and I wasn't gonna lie, it felt fucking good.
"You're thinking entirely too much, Angel," he whispered, kissing my exposed neck. "I've answered this same question before; you and I click, even though you can't see it yet. As far as where we live, I can go anywhere as long as I have my laptop with me. If you want to stay in Oregon, we'll live in Oregon, but if you'd be willing, we could live in my condo in California."
"How did you know I live in Oregon?"
He chuckled, nibbling at my neck and sending a wave of fire to my core. "You're sister of course." I sighed and rolled my eyes as he worked his way down my back, his front pressing against me. "The real question is whether or not we want to make love with your sister and friends down the hall," he smirk, licking up my jawline to bite my earlobe.
I giggled and lightly smacked his cheek. Since when did I giggle? "We will not; behave!" He chuckled and shrugged his shoulders, resting his head on my shoulder. I sighed, deciding to take a leap. "We could try to live in California...but if I don't like it, I'm coming back to Oregon with or without you."
I could feel him smile against my skin. "Of course, my dear." I rolled my eyes and began to put distance in between us to regulate my breathing and heart rate. "Do you need help packing your things back in Oregon? I have my schedule cleared for the next two days."
"That'd be nice; my flight back leaves at five o'clock this evening."
"I'll change mine right now, and give you to time to gather your things." I nodded and gave me a final kiss to my cheek before leaving the room.
Holy shit, what was I doing?! I'm moving to California with a man I barely know who is my husband. I'm crazy, there's no other explanation.
But as a smile made its way to my face, I couldn't deny that I was excited. Yeah, this was crazy, and yeah, this could be the biggest mistake of my life, but I'd never been more eager to make a mistake before! I had been so focused in my thoughts that I didn't hear Hazel walk in.
"He's a good man, Evangeline."
I looked over my shoulder to gaze at my sister. "And how do you know that?"
"You can see it in his eyes, he cares for you."
"I suppose so," I paused and sighed, turning to face her. "I'm moving to California for a while, just to give it a go."
Hazel gave me a wide grin, then squealed and ran to wrap her arms around me. "This is the prime of your life, girl! don't let anyone mess it up, especially not that son of a bitch; you hear me?"
I nodded and pulled away. "I hear you, Haze."
"And you better not be late to my wedding Sunday!"
"Of course not," I chuckled, rolling my eyes.
"Good; just because you're married to a billionaire doesn't mean I'm letting you off the hook, but I am expecting a bomb ass wedding present." We laughed and hugged again.
"I'm not spending any of his money, Haze."
"You say that now, but I doubt he'll let you refuse."
"We'll see."
"So we shall," she winked. "Now, let's get packed for the trip home! I can't wait to tell Caleb about this!"
"Yeah, I'm sure everyone will know." And I don't mind...
