BECKETT
Angel walked me through her new apartment and right away I knew I wanted something bigger for us. "It's a bit small," she said, scratching the back of her head. "I just got here so I can't move anywhere for a while because I don't wanna break my lease."
"Don't worry about that, Angel, I'll take care of everything tomorrow."
"Well, it technically is tomorrow," she laughed. "We spent a lot of time at the hotel."
My mind wandered back to a few hours ago and I smiled, taking her by the hand. "I'll take care of everything." I caressed her hand with my thumb and I felt my heart swell when I could feel the edges of her ring on my skin.
"How?"
"None of your business," I winked.
"Oh really?" She crossed her arms and lifted her chin in challenge.
"Really."
"Well, you're my husband so that makes it my business."
I chuckled and wrapped my arms around her waist. "So you're pulling the Marriage-Card, huh?"
"We're married, aren't we?"
Before I could say anything, her phone rang and she sighed at the Caller ID. "Who is it?"
"Hazel. We had a bit of a falling out."
"Are you going to answer?"
She paused but eventually she did answer the phone, quickly holding it up to her ear. "Hey...yeah. He did?" She looked at me and lifted an eyebrow. "Yes. Yes. Yeah, me too. Lunch?" She looked up at me for confirmation and I nodded. "Yeah, we can do lunch. 12:45?" I nodded again. "Yeah sounds good. We'll see you there. Love you too, bye." She hung up and looked at me, giving me a small smile.
"You're good?"
"We're good."
"Good." I held out my arms and she stepped into them, sighing in comfort. "So where are we going for lunch?"
"It's a surprise, but before we go anywhere I need to shower and change."
"Go ahead, baby, I can keep myself occupied." She nodded and disappeared into the one bedroom to get cleaned up. I looked around and sighed at how many empty bottles there were around her apartment. I hunted and found the trash can, quickly throwing away the wine bottles and old take-out boxes that I found. It looks like we were both in the same boat when it came to dealing with the short break. I can hardly remember anything but whiskey and pizza for a whole month. I don't even remember where I got the pizza!
When I was satisfied, I sat back down on the flimsy couch and checked my emails on my phone, e-signing a few documents and catching up on new contracts. I already knew how I was going to deal with the current predicament my Angel was under and with a few calls, it was done. She returned and looked around the room. "Did you clean?"
"A little."
She laughed and sat on the couch, sighing. "Do you ever look back at where we first started and think that this is totally crazy, but you wouldn't have it any other way? I know you were always so sure about everything, but did you ever think that, at one point, this was crazy?"
I chuckled and wrapped one arm around her shoulders, pulling her in close. "I did think that a few times, but I just knew what I wanted I guess. From the minute we started talking, I knew I wanted to get to know you past the ice incident." We both laughed and I kissed her temple.
"I'm glad everything happened the way it did. I mean, things were painful and stressful at times, but everything turned out for the better." She paused and looked at me, smiling. "I'm really happy."
"I'm really happy too."
"Well," she said, standing. "We're overdo for lunch and I have to grovel for forgiveness from Hazel."
I chuckled and shook my head, cradling the back of her head in my hands as I gave her a lingering kiss on the forehead. "I'm sure you won't have to grovel. Being at lunch would be enough for her."
She shrugged. "I feel like I have to grovel."
"Please don't, that'd be insanely embarrassing for me."
She scoffed and punched my arm, admittedly hard. "Shut up and let's just go, I'm hungry anyway."
"As you wish." I got up and opened the door to the apartment with a smirk, knowing full-well she'll be very upset with me when I go to drive her 'home'.
...
"See? No groveling necessary," I told her, smiling as we walked to my car.
"I wasn't actually going to grovel, Beck."
"Oh, I know, my Evangeline would never grovel...unless it was-"
"Shut the fuck up," she laughed, playfully pushing me.
I chuckled and opened the car door for her. I knew that she hated being at the apartment where she was and it wouldn't be a big deal for my company to take on another property, but she would be upset that I did it without asking. Since when did I do anything she wanted me to though? I got in the car and began driving with Angel paying absolutely no attention until a vital turn was missed. I could see that she was becoming suspicious and the look on her face almost made me burst into a fit of laughter. She was so adorable! Her brow furrowed and her lips pursed as she took in her surroundings. "Where are we going?"
"To our apartment."
She reared back like she'd been slapped. "I'm sorry-repeat."
"To. Our. Apartment."
"But my apartment is-"
"Was and is now no more." She raised an eyebrow and looked at me like I had grown horns and an extra eye. "I bought the complex and had your things moved to another building I own."
She rolled her eyes, "Of course you did."
I was slightly worried by how well she was taking things, but maybe she expected me to do something like this after seeing my reaction to the dirt pit she was living in previously. "I just want a place to live that will be comfortable for both of us. Plus, did you really like that other apartment?"
"No," she mumbled, looking out the window.
"Me neither, but I'm excited to show you the new place...it has a wine fridge and everything." She laughed and shook her head. "And we can whatever you want! Counters, floors, any of the decor-"
"I'm sure I won't need to change anything other than some of the decor, Beck....does it have a tub?"
"A huge one."
"Okay good...I like big tubs."
"You just like big tub sex," I teased, winking at her.
"Shut up!"
