Kathaleena

A few days later, Asher, Austin, and I walked to Queens High School. Apparently we had to take a test on our first day to see if we were 'good enough' to go to the School of Science, where Peter goes. I rolled my eyes but took the test anyway. It was fairly easy at first, but then it got a bit more challenging towards the end. I signed my name at the front and handed it in just as the lunch bell rang. I grabbed my lunch bag and walked outside to sit in the grass. It was surprisingly warm for late October, and the sky had just a few clouds, so I sat down on the green grass and watched as the beautiful Autumn leaves blew around me as I ate my peanut butter and jelly sandwich. After I finished eating, I laid back and watched as the puffy clouds blew by. Something in the air changed and it felt uneasy.
"There's going to be a storm." I mumbled before I walked back inside as the bell rang.
"You're all set, Ms. Thompson, you are free to go home. You're test results should be in by tomorrow." The older lady said as I grabbed my bag and nodded before I left.

I decided not to go home, but instead walk around for a few hours so I could get used to Queens. I remember passing by a shop on my way down here so I decided to go there for dinner.
Once I arrived at Delmar's, I walked in and ordered a hot coffee and a small lemon bar.
"I don't think I've seen you around here before. What's your name, dear?" Mr. Delmar asked.
"Kathaleena, Sir. Most people call me Kat, though. I just moved here with my Step family. " I smiled politely as he shook my hand.
"Well, welcome to Queens, Kathaleena." He opened his arms wide as I giggled as someone walked in.
"She's hot." One of the two people said pointing at me before the other one look up. My blue eyes meet his deep brown ones as a small smile played on my lips.
"Kat, hey. How was your first day at school?" Peter asked.
"Boring, I had a test and then they sent me home." I scoffed shaking my head.
"Oh, that's the test to see if you're qualified to come into our school." The other boy, with olive skin, said. "I'm Ned, by the way."
"I'm Kathaleena, but most people call me Kat. It's nice to meet you Ned." I shook his hand.
"Oh, so she's the girl you wouldn't stop talking about!" Ned said as Peter's eyes widened and he hit Ned's shoulder as I laughed and shook my head.
"Your coffee is ready, Sweetheart." Mr. Delmar said as he handed me my coffee.
"Thank you, how much?" I asked.
"Free today." He smiled.
"Oh, you really don't have to, I can pay." I said as he shook his head.
"No, It's on the house." He pushed my money back to me.
"I'm putting it in the tip jar." I sassed as he laughed.
"You don't take no for an answer, do you?" He asked.
"Not when it comes to this, nothing in this world is free, but thank you." I smiled softly as I sipped on my coffee. "And this is probably the best coffee I've had in a long time. Thank you for the coffee, but I have to get home, thank's again." I thanked him, just as I stepped outside it started to pour and I was drenched in one second.
"On second thought, I might stay here until the rain clears up." I laughed.
"If you take her home, I'll give you the sandwich for free." Mr. Delmar said to Peter.
"I was going to ask her anyway." Peter whispered. "Here, let me walk you home. I have an umbrella." Peter offered.
"Thank you." I smiled as Ned and Mr. Delmar waved and we walked out into the rain under his umbrella.

We walked, talked, and laughed until we got to our respective doors.
"Thanks for walking me home, Peter." I smiled before we said goodbye and walked inside.
When I got inside, I headed to my room and shut the door so I could work on one of the songs that I was almost finished with. I quickly finished the song and played it fully for the first time on my guitar.

After I finished playing, I made dinner for my family before getting ready for bed. I snuggled close to my warm, purring kitten as my eyes closed until the next morning.
