After our little moment, Jack left the room leaving me to my thoughts. What have I gotten myself into? I know I am attracted to Jack, but I don't think I can handle his lifestyle.
A knock on the bedroom door snapped me out of my thoughts.
"Come in" I called as I fixed my appearance. "Hello!" a little giggle greeted me as Lily ran and jumped on my bed. I smiled, imagining my own daughter running up to me one day.
I hugged the little child and greeted her back. "Why aren't you in school munchkin?" I asked. Lily smiled cutely and said "it's Saturday silly!" My eyes widened, I had completely lost contact with time and space.
"Oh no! I have to get ready for work!" I jump, scaring both the child and myself. I get out of bed, realising I was only wearing a shirt, and Lily started laughing loudly at my appearance. A few seconds passed before the door was opened, and Jack walked in holding his phone against his ear. No, it was actually my phone! I ran to him and tried to take it, but he was so much taller than me, my attempt looked comical.
"I spoke to both your bosses, and got you time off all of next week until we manage to eliminate any threat towards you. And you will be moving in with me tonight, so get dressed and we'll go pack your clothes" he spoke in an authoritative tone making it clear i had no choice in the matter.
I looked up at him, eyes wide in disbelief. Had he not understood everything I had told him this morning?
"Lily baby why don't you go downstairs and watch some TV while uncle Jack and I talk, yeah?" I smiled at the small child who nodded and skipped out of the room. Jack closed the door after her, and straightened up, folding his hands on his chest.
"Look Jack, maybe I did not make myself clear. I am not, and I will not be with you because of your dangerous lifestyle. Am I attracted to you? Sure. Do I like you? Yeah. But am I going to be stupid enough to risk my life? No."
His eyes looked me up and down as I spoke, and then he smiled. I looked at him bewildered, wondering what the hell is up with him.
" If you're so sure you can handle everything on your own, okay. Go to your apartment, and I will be out of your way," he said. And then took a step forward, his features turning hard. "But when you realise that you can't take care of yourself against a New York gang, and that you need me, I might just be gone already".
And then he walked out, slamming the door. I released a breath i did not even know i was holding, and looked around for something to wear. I spotted a pair of black leggings, must be Ella's. I quickly put them on, keeping Jack's shirt on and then threw on my shoes. I grabbed my bag that was on the nightstand, and walked downstairs.
"Oh good you're out of the room! would you like some tea?" Ella asked as soon as she saw me.
"No thank you Ella, really for everything. But I have to go home now. I'll see you next week for Lily's dance class" I rushed and left the house not even glancing at Jack who was glaring at me.
I walked to my apartment, and took a long needed shower. I put on a pair of comfy yoga pants and a cropped baby pink sweater before making some tea. Jack was acting crazy, nothing is going to happen! I doubt this gang he keeps talking about will come after me, I mean who even am I for them...
A couple hours passed, and it's now eight pm. I made some dinner and sat down to eat while watching the latest Supernatural episode. I have been obsessed with this show for as long as I can remember. Once I was done, I cleaned the dishes and went to the bathroom to wash my teeth and face. I was looking for my pjs when I heard a knock at my door. I checked the time, it's already ten pm. I did not have a peephole so I had to open the door to see who it was, but there was no one. That's weird, I thought but went back to my room. And then my lights started to flicker. And then I started to panic, and reached for my phone. I unlocked it and suddenly the lights went out.
"Oh my God, oh my God" I started hyperventilating. sSomeone banged hard at my door, making me scream in fright. Holy shit, I'm going to die, I thought. I turned the flash, and hurried to the kitchen, grabbing a steak knife and running back to hide in my closet. I heard my door being kicked open, and sucked in a breath.
"Hello little miss Rose! We're just here to have a small chat with ya!" a deep voice voice mocked with a heavy New York accent. I gulped, cursing in my head. My heart was racing, and even skipped a beat when that voice ordered "find her and bring her to me". I coud hear loud footsteps all over my clean apartment, the Virgo in me was crying.
Suddenly, the lights in my room came back on. They were here. I held the knife closer to me, and then remembered I had my phone with me. I look down, but it was off. I tried turning it back on, but it kept saying low battery. I felt my lungs collapsing, what am I going to do?
I decided right then and there that I will not go down without a fight. if I die, I will die bravely and not hiding in some closet behind my only pair of expensive heels. I took a deep breath and cracked open my closet door. I could see silhouettes, and counted two. Okay, two against one was not so bad. I am small which makes me fast and that will come in handy for when I'm running for my life.
Their attention was focused on something on my desk, this is it. Now or never. I sprung out of the closet, and ran towards the front door.
"What the fuck! Get her!" someone screamed and I found myself tackled to the floor. I kicked punched and screamed, before stabbing the man in the arm. He yelled in pain and moved away from me, and I quickly ran out of the apartment.
I ran and ran, with tears rolling down my face and white socks covering my feet until I reached Ella's house. I madly knocked on their door, while frantically looking around. The door opened and a shirtless angry Jaden, but look immediately turned to concern when he saw me.
"Rose! What the fuck happened to you!" he exclaimed before pulling me inside. I was breathing really harshly, muttering incoherent words; I was a stuttering mess.
"Okay, alright calm down. I'm calling Jack okay? Stay here" he soothed. "No! Don't leave me alone, they were following me. Please I'm so scared." I cried pathetically.
"Alright, darling relax, I'm right here. Here, take the phone and talk to him" he said and dialled the number. He picked up on the second ring.
"What do you want?", he growled.
"Jack", I whispered. He took in a sharp breath, "What's wrong? Why do you have Jaden's phone?" he asked. I started crying. "Can you keep me safe?"
"I'm on my way" he stated and hung up.
