And on the count of three, the veil fell free from where it had been attached. Zara looked up and it felt as if the ground was slipping from her feet as cold green eyes stared back at her.

His eyes never left me, as everyone cheered jovially and swarmed us with hugs and congratulations. I blinked away my tears and turned to my cousins and gave them my attention as they took their turns to hug me.  I glanced at his way but he had turned his back on me and was talking with his Khala.

"Zara look up," Sameena baji instructed me as she was dabbing the the bottom of my eyes and making sure that my makeup still looked good after all the crying I did during the Nikkah Ceremony.

Faiza and my cousins fussed over me and made sure that I looked impeccable while sitting on the stage as everyone was staring at me. They smiled and left me alone on the stage, I looked down at my henna cladden hands and played with the various silver bangles and tried to calm myself.

My husband is a Murderer and a Monster he killed them with his bare hands. Ya Allah please ease my path and help me. Just then a shadow crossed my eyes and someone took a seat at the decorated sofa.

It was none other then my husband.

"Are you done crying , if yes then I would suggest you look up and smile, its a wedding and not a funeral for fuck sake." Cold green eyes clashed with warm hazel eyes.

Haider grabbed my hand and squeezed it tightly, he leaned closer to my ear and breathed the intoxicating fragrance of flowers.

"Remember this day until you take your last breath sweet girl, because from this day on you belong to me."

The servers chose that moment to enter the ballroom with plates. I could not bring myself to enjoy the food and could barely swallow it. I felt Haiders stare throughout the whole function.

Shortly after midnight, Haider and I excused ourselves. He led me through the remaining guests and was followed by his Khala and his Cousins. I wonder were his Parents are?

My family members followed behind us and know it was time for the
Rukhsati, I tried to keep my tears at bay but one look at my parents and my brother and I couldnt control myself.

"Khush raho beta ab wo apka ghar hain," said my father while cupping my chin and giving me a kiss on my forhead, my mother gave me a smile and kissed my cheeks while my brother gave me a bear hug.

"Chotti apne bhai ko na bhulna," I lightly swatted his back and laughed. Sameena and Faiza walked me up to the car where my husband and his family stood waiting for me ever so patiently. Cold green eyes were following my every move and I shuddred.

On the drive to Haider's mansion neither of us spoke. I busied myself watching traffic through the passenger window while I desperately tried to hide my rising nervousness.

Haider slowed as we approached a huge light-brown three-story mansion. Wrought iron gates swung open when pressed a button in the dashboard and we drove through, then headed for the double garage.

After Haider had parked next to a Mercedes SUV, he got out. He walked around the car and opened my door for me, then held out his hand and helped me out of the car, which was difficult with my dress. His hand was warm and steady. I was surprised not to find his skin ice-cold as his persona.

He led me through a side door into the lobby of the mansion. The floor and the staircase were dark hardwood and a chandelier cast a soft glow down on us.

"Aao, meri beti" said Haiders Khala as she led me through the living room,  Haider took a seat on the sofa and I was told to take a seat beside him on the sofa.

"Beta ye ab apka ghar hain or aap is family ka hissa ban gahi ho," Khala said with a thick voice. The family exchanged a few more words and his cousin teased both the groom and the bride.

A young girl approached Zara and hugged her.

"Hi my name is Hiba and I am Haiders cousin, its so nice to meet you bhabhi and you look like a doll Haider bhai is so lucks to have you."

"Its nice to meet you too Hiba," i gave her a small smile.

"Beta you must be tired Hiba take her to the master room." Hiba nodded and  led me to the staircase. I stopped with a hand on the banister only to meet with cold green eyes. I'd halted in the middle of the staircase but quickly rushed toward Hiba and followed her upstairs. My stomach fluttered with nerves.

My thoughts were interrupted when Hiba opened the door to the master bedroom and made an inviting gesture for me to go in. I walked past her, my wedding dress swooshing gently with the movement.

The king sized bed was black wood with black satin covers.
She helped me sit down on the bed and adjusted my veil before leaving the room.

A few minutes later the door opened again and in walked none other then my husband.I flashed a quick glance in passing to gauge his mood, but as usual his expression was unreadable.

"The bathroom is through that door," Haider said with a nod toward a dark wood door to my right.

I hesitated. Did he want me to freshen up? He closed the bedroom door and started loosening his tie. He headed toward the window and looked out, his back to me. I got the hint. I walked into the marble bathroom.

It was black marble, I strode toward the window that faced the same direction as the one in the bedroom, wondering if Haider saw the same view I did; the boisterous lake, the black clouds dotting the night-blue sky and blotting out the full moon, I turned away from the window and began to undress before I took a quick shower. After I'd dried off, I put on the plum satin pyjamas and brushed out my hair.

I took a few moments to gather myself, then I stepped back into the bedroom. Haider hadn't moved from his spot at the window. I allowed myself a moment to admire him in his black suit. He looked strong and sophisticated, untouchable, with his hands pushed into his pockets. An iceman, cold, emotionless, controlled.

I cleared my throat nervously and he turned toward me. His cold green eyes scanned my body briefly but his expression didn't change. There was nothing. He might as well have been carved from stone.

"You can lie down. I'll grab a shower," he said. His gaze shifted for the barest moment but then he stalked into the bathroom and closed the door after him.

I walked up to the bed and slid under the covers. The shower ran for a long time and eventually my eyelids became heavy. I tried to fight the tiredness but at some point I must have dozed off because I jerked awake when the bed dipped. My eyes darted to the side where Haider  was stretching out. His cool eyes settled on me. It was impossible to say what he was thinking. Would he reach out for me now?

"Zara you are now my wife and as my wife you are the Shahs family pride, dont you dare do anything to bring shame on this name and family and as far we are talking about this farce of marriage you belong to me but dont ever except Love and children from this relationship."

"I have an early day tomorrow," he said simply and then he turned the light off and rolled away from me. I was glad the darkness hid my shock  He lay beside me quiet and unmoving, his back a few inches from my arm.

Hurt welled in me and I rolled over, away from him, as tears rolled down my eyes and with that all my dreams of a marriage filled with love and respect and if ever children.
