Days passed.
And just like that.
Carter Jensen pretended I no longer existed, that our kiss never happened.
He stuck to his word the day of our argument, the next day he did go to Mrs.Lee and he told her how he wanted to finish his project alone.
Which with whatever excuse he gave her on why, she believed him.
And then she asked me if I wanted a new partner or to work alone.
I too, continued to work alone."You act like you guys broke up before you even dated." Chloe pointed out in art.
I glanced to her brushing my brush against the white canvas.
"I know we weren't dating, but it felt like it, and I had kind of hoped we would be." I murmured.
Chloe rolled her blue eyes before shaking her head.
"That's what you get for trying to mingle with the weirdos, Lexi. You should of known he wouldn't actually be into you, when it'd only draw more attention to him." She explained.Right..
The next day at school, I had to lie to everyone.
I wasn't going to tell Bryce and the others he was a vampire, and I wouldn't mention the threat that Jace promised towards Monty if I screwed up.
This was no longer about me, Jace was after Monty.
And I couldn't spill the truth that there was a house full of vampires, near the saw mill without risking my best friends life over it.So I had to lie, I told everyone who had their suspicions about him were wrong.
And that it caused a huge fight between me and Carter, which lead to him dropping out as my partner and wanted nothing to do with me.
But it still hurt.
I went there for answers, and only got angry vampires and a confused broken heart out of it.But for the ones who didn't even know vampires existed, but knew I was partners with Carter.
I had to lie about that too, by telling them he was getting tired of everyone's eyes always on him, and trying to talk to him after witnessing he could talk to the schools butterfly, just fine.
To my relief.
They easily believed the lie.I didn't want to become the girl who got hung up over one guy, especially when it turns out he was a vampire.
I mean, part of me was ready to accept that and try to be with him.
But the other half, actually was terrified.
Carter seemed like he was the kind of vampire who had no problem, being nice.
And that was the good part about it.
But then you had Jace..
He didn't have a single problem being the bad guy.
And I think he got off about it."Lexi?" I looked away from my canvas, to soft hazel eyes looking back at me.
Amy stood there, her arms crossed as she glanced around.
"Can I talk to you?" She asked.
Chloe rolled her eyes.
"What did I tell you Lexi? If you start hanging out with the weirdos, they'll suddenly think they can all start talking to you." She said with an annoyed look, aimed at Amy.I frowned at her.
"Chloe, for once shut up." I told her then looked to Amy.
"Yeah." I looked to Mr.Monroe who was too busy reading his book.
"Lets talk." I agreed following her out of the classroom. We walked outside towards the football field, she had her arms crossed.
"I want to apologize for my brothers." She told me.
I looked to her.
"Its not your place to apologize, Amy. Not to mention, they weren't exactly out of line talking to me.. well, Jace kind of was but that isn't the point." I told her.
She smiled softly at that.
"You should understand, vampires can be pretty hot headed. Jace is the absolute worst when it comes to his temper, but you should know he isn't always as harsh as he comes off to be. But when you get told, you're returning back to Crossroads after decades of what the people here have done to our own families, you'd be pretty sore about it." She explained. We walked over to the bleachers, taking a seat as the boys on the football field tossed the ball.
Immediately, I saw Carter.
He was defending Bryce as he ran with the ball, to make it to the other side of the field."I don't understand why you're having to explain this." I looked at her now confused.
Amy shrugged softly.
"Because I know my brothers, and I knew Carter would never tell you about us. Mainly because, when he told his past girlfriend anything. She ran straight to her parents, who told the entire town. Carter watched half of his family get killed that same day, and after that? He hasn't been able to trust the humans." She told me.
I frowned softly.
"So he kept it to himself, because he thought I would of ran and told everyone.. and then he'd have to see it happen all over again." I murmured.
