"Cate. Wake up darling" I hear a voice say. I'm so tired. I don't want to wake up.
"Come on. Open those eyes. There's a little lady wants to meet you." I open my eyes once again and Jaime is there, holding my baby girl. Our baby girl? I know he said he wanted this and he looks so natural holding her. He lays her down on my chest. I look at her. I see perfection.
"Hello Anwen" I whisper.
"Anwen?" says Jaime. I nod.
"It means very beautiful" I whisper. He smiles and nods. He lifts the sleeping baby off me and lays her in the hospital crib. He lies on the bed next to me and kisses me. A gentle kiss full of love.
"I love you Cate. I have since the first day I saw you. You're so beautiful and now we have this little beauty too. Thank you for letting me be a part of her life." I feel my eyes fill up with tears of happiness and I kiss him right back.
"Thank you for staying with me and looking after me. Anwen couldn't ask for a better father figure in the absence of her own. I love you Jaime."
We lie like that for a few minutes until we hear the door open. Jaime sits up slightly and sees Mike and Vic there. He motions for them to come in. They are clutching a bag containing some gifts for Anwen. I thank them both and lay back down. Mike says he's going to get a coffee and asks would anyone else like anything. Jaime says he'll go too. I mentally curse them both for leaving Vic here with me. I close my eyes, not particularly wanting to see him.
"Cate." I sigh and look at him.
"What?" I say.
"I'm truly sorry for the way I've treated you. I was mourning for Ally too and shouldn't have taken it out on you. She was like a sister to me and to have her taken so suddenly hit me incredibly hard. It's no excuse. I was out of order but I've seen how much help and love you've given Tony and Scarlett and how happy Jaime is when he's around you and I realised I misjudged you. I'm so sorry."
I look at him and realise he means it. I hold my arms out to him and hug him tight. He's crying on my shoulder.
"Vic, thank you. Don't be upset. I'm fine and what's in the past is in the past ok." He nods and hands me a little package with my name on. I open the paper and see a charm bracelet. On it are two tiny baby booties, one blue, one pink. The blue one has a 'R' and the pink one is currently blank, awaiting Anwen's initial.
"She's called Anwen. It means very beautiful" I say. He nods his head.
"I like that."
There's another knock on the door. Tony pops his head around the frame, smiling.
"I'll go and find the others" Vic says, getting up. I smile at him, glad he's realised I never intended to replace Ally.
Tony pulls the chair up and takes my hand.
"Jaime told me what you said. I asked the surgeon and it's true. I do have Owen's heart."
"Before that dream I had seen something in your eyes a couple of times. Something that seemed familiar. I couldn't place it at first but it dawned on me when you were in here, just after I'd given birth. I knew before the dream. I just guess that confirmed it. I'm glad it's you he's living on in. For you and Scarlett. I always knew he was a good man and so are you." I hug Tony tightly and realise he's practically Anwen's father. In the most bizarre way of course.
"No, I'm not" he says. "Jaime is her daddy."
I look at him, confusion on my face. He laughs and I see Owen again. He always could read my mind after all our time together. I smile and nod.
