The sun shined through Kai's Windows and his eyes slowly opened. He quickly jumped out of bed threw his clothes on and ran to the kitchen.
"Bye mom" he called to her.
"Kai where do you think you are going?" She replied from the kitchen.
" I'm going to uh look for food"
"Wait for your sisters, I don't want you going out there alone."
"Ugh fine they have three minutes or else I'm leaving alone."
Ashlynn and Elizabeth walked into the kitchen together. The moment Kai saw the two of them he dragged them outside.
"Where on earth could you possibly be taking us this early!" Elizabeth groaned wanting to go back to sleep.
" Yesterday I planted a seed in a small garden and I'm going to check on it. "
"It's only been one day, you won't be able to see it growing yet," Ashlynn explained.
" it won't be growing at all because absolutely nothing grows. Even if it did someone would have stolen the food before we got to it. " Elizabeth said.
"Can't you guys have a positive attitude for once in your life. I'm just feeling..." Kai paused wondering if he actually thought that the seed could be growing. Everything has gone downhill for their family already, why get better now. "Nevermind we probably shouldn't even look. There's no point."
"No, we are going to that garden. And we are going to take care of the little seed. And it WILL grow!" Ashlynn said determined to give Kai back his hope.
The three siblings continued to walk in the dirt path until they reached the garden. Kai closed his eyes not ready to look and see what was there yet.
"Kai, I'm sorry," Elizabeth said while walking towards the gate.
Kai opened his eyes to a still dead garden with not a single sprout in sight. He ran over to the gate and opened it. As he walked inside he couldn't believe his eyes.
   "Um Elizabeth, Ashlynn." Kai panicked
" Yeah? " they asked in unison.
"Are you sure the garden is empty."
" Yes, we're pretty sure... "They both said while worried.
" Come inside and take a closer look because I think I may be seeing things. "
"What do you mean there is nothing in the garden."
"Yeah, the thing is...I see a full garden. Tomatoes, wheat, grapes, eggplants, broccoli, strawberries, peas."
" Elizabeth we should probably get Kai home, I think the heat is affecting him. "
Elizabeth nodded and started walking towards Kai.
"Guys I'm not crazy! Why won't you believe me? I can see it with my own eyes. I'll even grab a piece for you to see."
Kai slowly reached out getting closer and closer to the peach tree in front of him. Please be real he thought to himself. Finally, he could feel the fuzzy surface of the ripe peach.
"See, see! I told you, I told you it was real!"
The second the peach hit his hand the girls could finally see it.
"How- but- where-" Elizabeth tried to make full sentences but she was totally astonished by the appearance of this peach from thin air.

"I am never doubting anything you say ever again," Ashlynn replied with her mouth still hanging open.

"So you guys seriously can't see the rest of the garden?"

"All I see is a teenage boy holding a peach meanwhile all of us are starving," Elizabeth said running over to Kai and grabbing the peach. She took one bite and fell to the ground.

"Elizabeth are you ok!" Ashlynn yelled at her.

Elizabeth took another bite of the peach and with a full mouth said, "It's sooo good."

Kai Picked six more peaches, one for every member of the family. He gave some to Ashlynn and Elizabeth to hide as they walked home so no one tried to steal their newly found food.

"Mom look at what we found today!" Elizabeth yelled across the room. She walked up to her and revealed the peaches.

"My oh my. That's the most food we have had in five years."She said astonished. "Where on earth could you possibly have found that."

"Well kai found a-" She started to say before kai cut her off and said," I found it near the dumpster at the gas station."

Kai walked away into his room with Ashlynn and Elizabeth following behind.

"Why did you lie to mom?" Ashlynn questioned.

"The more people who know about it the less of a chance we could keep it safe. Also, you guys can't tell anyone about it because we are all in danger now with us overpowering everyone else. Just promise me you guys will be careful and keep it a secret between us, "Kai replied.

Every week Kai, Ashlynn, and Elizabeth would return to the garden. Kai would grab a couple of various fruits, vegetables, and wheat. They secretly brought it back to their house where they would make different meals. They only brought a little bit back to avoid any suspicion from their mother and father. Out of all the food they made there was one simple thing that they wanted, bread.
