Flight
Chapter 1
-------
Seto woke to a loud crash coming from his room. He burst his eyes open, his ears tilting in several directions trying to find where this noise was coming from, and who was making it. Lifting his head up, he quickly realized that he had slept in the potion room last night and that the she-cat must be awake. Standing on his stiff legs, he walked slowly to his room trying to see if the she-cat was up or not. He lightly tapped the door with his paw, pushing it open just enough he could see inside.
It was a mess. Feathers were scattered across the floor, claw marks were on the ceiling and paw prints were on the circular window. The bowl of soup Seto had made for her last night was upside down, its contents spilled everywhere, staining the carpet. His bed was ripped to near shreds, and the crash from earlier was from the books that had fallen from the scratched bookshelf. The cat was nowhere to be seen.
Opening the door till it couldn’t go any further, Seto stood and stared in shock at the damage the cat had done. Looking up to a corner in the ceiling, he saw her flapping her wings furiously, trying to stay in the air. Her fur was ruffled and her face was full of shock and surprise to see another cat standing there.
Walking in as calmly as possible, Seto looked as the cat with warmth, his ears twitching in annoyance. “What did you do?” his words weren’t very friendly.
“I need to go away,” her voice seems to stutter and was filled with uncertainty as if she was choosing her words carefully, “I must go back home.” She turned and rammed into the window, trying to break it, but failing miserably. She fell onto the floor with a thump, letting out a squeak of pain. Trotting over, Seto nosed the cat gently, trying to get her on her paws.
“Go away. I want to be alone,” she panted, “I need to go away. I must go home.”
Seto disobeyed her orders as he walked around her to face her eyes. They were a bright hazel, glowing softly in the light from the window. Her pupils were tiny silts that you could just barely see, her breathing hard, uneven, and the way her ribs were showing through her fur, he needed to help the cat soon, or she would die. He didn’t think she even knew that.
Without saying a word, Seto left the cat to be, trotting quickly to his brewery to fetch a potion. He dug around on the shelves, pushing items out of the way to reveal more items. Jars and bottles of multicolored potions and drinks, he used to sell to his friends. He tilted his head upwards, scanning the tops of the shelves for anything familiar. Spotting a glow from behind a few books on the second to highest shelf, Seto knew this is what he was looking for. Now, you must be guessing that Seto just flew up to get the bottle right? No, he instead clawed up the shelves like a squirrel until his nose was at the same level as the glow. But why would he do that, you ask? Seto can’t fly.
Shoving over a blue book, Seto gleamed at the bright pink liquid. Snatching the bottle from the shelf with his jaws in a tight grip, he leaped from the top shelf, landing with grace on the wooden floor, a small pain spiraling up his legs, but it was more like a tap than anything else. Trotting back to his now destroyed room, to find the she-cat still resting on the floor, her breath barely detectible as she clawed the floor for life. Seto ran over, tilting her head back with a paw, using his teeth and other paw to unscrew the cap off. Dripping the smooth pink liquid in her mouth, he watched the small drops slide down her throat. Her eyes brightened almost immediately after the tenth drop had vanished inside her. Her breathing became less ragged and she seemed to have control of herself as she snapped her jaws shut before Seto could put any more of the pink potion on her tongue.
