"What's wrong, Amy?" Dad suddenly started a conversation and made eye contact with me through the rear view mirror. "You're never quiet.""Yeah, i'm so annoying, right? You didn't even let me sit in the front with you." I sassed and stared out the window, watching the trees and street lights pass by.
"I never said that! You got in the backseat first!" Dad shouted, making me jump. "You're just so complicated, and it's usually hard to get you to shut up. This is why you're switching schools."
"No, i'm switching schools because i attacked Drake Mars." I corrected him with a scoff. I hate that guy with a burning passion. He treats girls like they're objects and tried to play footsies with me during class. Naturally, i kicked his ass.
"Look, i know things have been rough for you ever since Lacey-."
"Don't you dare bring that up now!"
"The point is, i miss my daughter. You've entered a dark state after the incident happened and nothing we've tried so far has helped you. Clearly, any regular high school is out of the question." Dad's mood quickly changed, along with the tone in his voice. He grabbed his pack of parliaments from the glove box, taking out a cigarette and placing it between his lips as he searched his pockets for a lighter.
"So, what makes you think Bullworth Academy is going to turn me into a sweet little angel that you hope for?" I raised an eyebrow at him as he rolled down his window and brought the lighter he found up to his face.
"A lot of kids like you attend this school. Your aunt says most of them found the right path and became successful in life after graduating." Dad took a large puff of his smoke, then let out a sigh of relief. Just the smell alone made me crave one, but his reaction to the nicotine made me go through the roof.
"Can i have one?" I asked with puppy dog eyes. Dad glared at me through the rear view mirror again, making me roll my eyes.
"No, you really need to stop that. It's a terrible habit."
"Says you! Besides, when will i ever get the chance to sneak one at Bullworth?" I kept on begging, but it wasn't working.
"The answer is no."
"Anyways, i don't trust Aunt Deirdre." I returned to the previous topic. "I mean, there's definitely a reason why we barely talk to her, right? She could be full of shit."
"Don't talk about her like that, she's your aunt. She's a busy woman and spends all of her time at that school. We were really close as kids. Besides, you'll have classes with her. Get used to it."
"Let me guess, she's going to spy on me constantly and tell you about every move i make." I interrogated as i tapped my finger against the leather seat in front of me.
"You're overthinking again." Dad pointed out as he finished his smoke and flicked it outside the car. "That's not healthy, Amy."
"Whatever, i know what you're planning."
"You know what, Amy? I think you're the one who needs a plan. You need to set a goal, and take baby steps to reach it. I know you can beat this depression you have going on."
If only he knew, i already a plan. In my case, taking baby steps is a waste of time. I'm starting at a new school, and i need to act fast.
"We're here." Dad announced as we reached our destination. I observed the place closely, and it was exactly as i was expecting. I got royal vibes from it, and the campus was huge. Like any other boarding school, the brick walls were rusty red and looked ancient, like in the movies. The entry had a tall arch that had the academy's name written on it. My thoughts were interrupted by a figure walking towards the car, then i realized who it was.
