"Thanks for coming down, Amy." Miss Danvers greeted me as i entered the office, due to the fact that i was called on the PA system. "Your father would like to speak to you over the phone.""Really?" My lips parted at the news, and i grew excited at the thought of talking to my dad for the first time since he dropped me off. "Maybe he realized that he made a huge mistake."
"Oh, come on." Miss Danvers rolled her eyes and ignored my sarcasm, then gestured for me to follow her. She lead me towards a plain room around the corner of the office, which only contained a single desk with a wooden chair, as well as an old rotary phone. "Go on, pick it up."
"Are you gonna leave?" I squinted at her, waiting for a chance to speak to my father privately.
"Don't rush me, child." She disciplined while waving her index finger in the air, making me mock her movements as she left the room and closed the door behind her.
"Uh, dad?" I grabbed the cold electronic and placed it against my ear, then heard heavy breathing from the other end.
"Amy? Is that finally you?" He asked an obvious question, causing me to sigh at his stupidity.
"No, it's your other daughter." I joked, although i wanted him to realize how lame his question was. "I said dad, didn't i?"
"Yeah, that sounds like something my Amy would say." He let out a short snicker, then cleared his throat. "I'm sorry i haven't called sooner."
"You made me think that you were happy to get rid of me. Why would you wait so long to call?" I confessed to how i felt, then heard my dad click his tongue on the opposite line.
"Amy, we've talked about this. You're always imagining the worst of possibilities from minor inconveniences. I've been working my ass off at the clinic, and i also thought that maybe it would've been best if i gave you some time to settle in."
"Fine, i believe you."
"So, tell me what's going on over there. How are you, and how's my sister doing?"
"Well, like i've basically told every other teacher here, this school feels like a legitimate prison. Dad, it's being ran by cliques and bullies, and all of the harmless students are scared to even leave their dorms, let alone go to class. I've been trying to understand why you signed me up for something like this in the first place."
"No matter where you go, there's also going to be a group of kids, or even just that one kid who are going to cause trouble and be a nuisance. There's no such thing as a perfect school, but i find it hard to believe that you're making it out to sound like you've been thrown into some sort of torture chamber. I've heard nothing but good things about that school from your aunt."
"Well, that's the thing. From what i've seen, it looks like Aunt Deirdre is everyone's favourite teacher here, so she doesn't get any trouble like i thought she would. I guess in her perspective, she doesn't see the bad qualities of this place. She just didn't have anything negative to tell you, but i sure do."
"It can't be that bad, Amy. Maybe you're the one giving off a bad vibe and everyone feels intimidated by you. I know you, so i can only imagine."
"You're never on my side. Can't say i'm surprised, though. I'm just gonna go, now."
"No! Amy, please." Dad suddenly yelled, causing my eardrum to throb. "I'm sorry. Let's talk about something else, okay? So, have you made any friends yet?"
"Fortunately, i have. Their names are Christy and Angie, and they've been really nice to me since my first day." I opened up, telling dad about the positive parts of my transition to this school, just in case he was starting to worry about me. "Although, I wouldn't count my roommate as a friend. She's pretty high-maintenance, and we barely talk."
