Jamie POV
My lip couldn't have quivered more than in that moment. Turner nearly made me piss my pants, I don't know how I held my own or how I'm going to when Zander talks to me. When we entered I was taken aback by the bright golden swirls throughout, everything was so pristine I could see my pores just by looking at the floor. The chandelier hung with a thousand crystals and diamonds attached to it as it shone brightly whenever the sun hit it just right. The reflection of the light scattered everywhere hitting the ancient vases and outdated paintings. Even the people overwhelmed me the moment I stepped in. I glanced back to Zander after staring at anything that wasn't him. He looked furious but mostly concerned, most likely for himself. Zander gave me a disappointed stare which oddly sunk in my stomach and stirred unknown emotions.
"Jamie, why couldn't you just look at Turner? Was it too hard to ask for? Do I have to start dumbing orders down or can you do it on your own?" He started off attacking without missing a beat.
"Dumbing what down? Yourself by being so ignorant to how much of an ass everyone is? Yeah okay, even if you do dumb your orders down I'll find a way to screw them up just for you. Call it love," I snickered back as I stared down the elongated hallways. I could tell his temper was boiling and I was just turning up the fire.
"Don't give yourself that much credit. You screw up everything whether you try to or not," He stated harshly back leaving me in silence. I didn't want to speak and I feel like if I did I'd cry at any moment. After Zander led me to our room, I went to the bed and sat down enjoying the comfort the blankets brought me. Zander followed in pursuit and plopped himself down next to me on the bed.
His tone much softer than before, "Jamie, I know it's a lot to ask of you especially since you don't know society's rule being brought up in such an anti-hierachy environment. I already set up a time for a tutor to come and help you become the perfect 'queen.'" He rested his hand over mine but I reflexively yanked it away.
"Stop using that word! I don't even know what it means but you make it sound so demeaning and like my village is crazy. I know it's insulting, I can hear it in your tone of voice. I'm not that stupid and I don't need a tutor to learn how to be another person. I don't want to learn how to be anyone else but me. Just stop acting like this place has and will always be better than my village!" I raised my voice in genuine frustration.
"Calm down Doll. It just means you guys are against a system in which people are ranked. It provides structure for a society to function. It gives everyone a role to function in and makes people feel like they have a purpose. And your village's ideology is foreign, in fact it's quite ancient. The tutor will tell you more about it and the tutor is nonnegotiable. I won't allow you to make a fool of me by not knowing any of the kingdom's rule or hierarchy's rule. Speaking of making a fool of me, we have a dinner tonight with my friends. I'm going to reschedule the one with the advisors because I don't think you know how to behave right yet," Zander said so matter of factly.
I could feel my rage bubbling with every word he spoke, every time his voice hit my ear I seemed to grow more resistant. In pure resentment I retorted, "Don't you hear yourself? A ranking system giving structure and people a purpose? It's more like you force a purpose and restrict their will to be who they want. I'll meet with the tutor on one condition, you have to do my villages traditions with me still and act nicer to Omegas. If not, I'd rather be locked away than be your showcase doll or trophy housewife."
Zander opened his mouth but promptly closed it seeing how he already has had a taste of how persistent I am. "Fine, it's a deal but you have to follow my orders more. I'll give you a tour around my home and tonight at dinner I already have picked out what you'll wear. Come with me now so I can show you around," he stood up straightening out his back and helped me on my feet. I got a glimpse of the bathroom inside the room and it was huge with a floral sleek design. I could barely see in but I pointed out a huge bathtub that could be considered a mini pool. It matched perfectly with the king sized bed and the velvety room of his. His curtains were draped to let in a decent amount of sunlight while still remaining mysterious. His furniture looked like vintage and modern had a baby and decided to keep the bloodline running in the family. Zander led me out his room to show off his house to me. He brought me into every room, most of them were just guest rooms for royal visitors or the staff. He showed me his study room that was decorated in books and medals. I went to touch one on the wall but Zander smacked my hand away from it before I could touch it. He told me those were too precious for me to touch and dirty. Consequently leaving me with a pout on my face but I subsided to being curious again instead. There wasn't a single speck of dust anywhere in his office either. His prized possessions hung on the wall being positioned perfectly. The leather chair creased from Zander sitting on it too much probably. Zander directed me out of the office and refused to let me down a certain wing his house.
