Don't Let Go

Chapter 6

Jamie P.O.V

The phone did make me happy and it gave me a sense of reassurance. I still wasn't ready to let my guard down around him. He reeked of danger, impulsiveness, and oblivion. Nonetheless, he was one of the sexiest guys I've ever laid my eyes upon. He couldn't compare to Max since Max wasn't only physically hot but personality wise, he was radiating. I decided to go with River in order to prepare for the final celebration. It was a party and traditionally mates would dance, do the tying ceremony, and exchange drinks. Whenever I went, it always filled me with utter joy and expectations.

River and I walked towards his house in awkward silence.  I hum lightly unsure of how I should even start talking about the situation I'm in. I didn't know what to say but I wanted to enjoy every last moment I had with River. I open my mouth to say something before River interrupts me, "You don't really have to go with him...or I can always come with you. Make sure you're safe especially with the guys he brought along, I don't feel safe just letting you go like this." My heart was warmed by his genuine concern and I would be lying if I didn't say I hadn't considered what he already said.

"River, you have to stay here. I love that you're worried for me and all but I got this. I'll find my way out of this and I would be ripped apart if something happened to you if you came. You have Jason here too! He wouldn't let you come with me anyways and you know that," I rushed out my statements not leaving space for River to argue. I pull him in his house and drag him to his room to grab our traditional clothing for tonight's celebration. We've both been waiting since we were a kid to dawn these clothes. Even though this isn't how we both expected it to turn out I'm not going to let the celebration go to waste. The clothes fit perfectly and hugged all the right places. The patterns were bright and woven neatly as it draped off my arms.

"Jamie, you look sooo cute. Now I really can't let you go with that guy, he's going to eat you up the moment he sees you," River complimented with a hint of protectiveness.

"Oh, I know. I mean look at this body," I jokingly gave a sexy pose before River rolls his eyes and jabs at my side ruining the pose.

"I think I went too far to the point you're floating. I'm going to have to pop that ego I just built or else it'll continue to grow!" River stuck out his tongue as he placed the flowers and materials we needed to build our crowns in my hand. "Now get to work before it's too late," River plopped down on the bed and pulled me down with. I let out a light chuckle before getting to work with him. I threaded the stems of the flowers and strings together. By the time we were done, the sun was about to set on us. I let my thoughts fill my head while time slipped by. River and I quickly put on our traditional makeup which consisted of streaks of bright reds and blue paint. We painted it with an array of color before running out the house towards the lake.

"We have to hurry up before we're late! We'll get our asses kicked by Colton," River practically dragged me through the forest to get to the lake.

I teasingly poked at River, "I knew you were excited to see Jason but I didn't know you were this excited." It was totally worth it even though I got the death glare of my life from River.

"I am not! He's going to look as stupid as always. I just don't want to be late to what we've been waiting for our entire life," River stated in such a serious tone but I could tell he was all giddy inside too. We arrived just in time but still late enough to receive a scolding from Colton.

"You guys are always a pain in the ass, aren't you? It worries me sick whenever you're late and punctuality is an attractive trait. Learn it-," Colton continued to scold us (lovingly of course) but I tuned him out, "Jamie, are you even listening?" I snapped back to reality and nodded slowly.
