She stood there at the beach, overlooking the rambling waves and listening to the sounds of children's laughter whilst they played. Her mind was battling and her throat was dry. She still wasnt able to come to terms with what she had witnessed earlier that day.

But what bothered her more was the way she had reacted, or better placed - her heart had reacted. And as she again replayed the image, her heartbeat picked up its rate and a shiver was sent down her spine. She scowled and mentally cursed herself for being so weak - for the effect he still had on her. She thought she had moved on - if not entirely then partially; that atleast she remembered him only when she saw something related to him.

But today, all the walls went crashing down once again as she saw him, all the memories flooding back, thus making her hyperventilate. She hated herself for this.

All these years, she'd been trying to find out why in the first place did he affect her so much? Why was it that she cared about him so much? And most of all, what was it that had led her to this, when he was clearly the opposite of what she was.

Again, as she tried to find out the answers, she found herself coming to the same conclusion that she had arrived at repeatedly since the past few years - the answer was buried deep inside her, the reason to which she still didnt know. But even now, sbe was way too egoistic to accept the fact that she knew.

As all the memories came whirling in - as she again remembered the years she'd spent with him and as she again realised that she'd never been more comfortable, happy or opened up with anybody else after he left; she felt her head spin again and anxiety grip her.

All the memories - the sneaking out, the undying laughter, the endless jokes and all the promises - came to her mind one after another and she felt her heart heavy.

Today - right now - as she stood there, legs burried in the warm sand - she realised one thing that she had never wanted to : that the effect he had on her had never really faded; and that maybe, if they talked she'd fall for him all over again.

And this was enough to scare her.

They were each other's better halves, knew almost everything about each other, could recognise the emotions in each other's voice - nothing would be hidden.

They were the best of friends - maybe a bit more but nothing less.

"Maybe they werent meant to be together" she had thought all along.

Again, shaking all the thoughts of the past, she thought, I'm probably overthinking. There's nothing left now!

And by telling this, she tried to calm herself down.

Ever since she'd been with him, her life had been extreme. The joy that she had with him couldnt be compared to anything; and when he wasnt there, anxiety would befriend her and she'd think about him all day. A quickened pace in her heartbeat and she'd know something is wrong with him. She knew him way too nicely. But it was all in the past.

Adjusting her dress, she decided to sit, and thats when she heard her cellphone ringing.

She checked the caller ID

It was Reece.

Reece was her boyfriend since around 3 years. He was tall, dark, handsome and understanding - a rather ideal guy any girl would want.

Girls always went for guys who didnt fall at their feet - the arrogant ones.
She thought if she wasnt one of them.

And that is how, she decided to date Reece who was head over heals after her.

Slowly, she picked up the call, trying to drag out a rather normal reply, " Hello? "

" Where are you? I've been worried sick after knowing that you arent home yet! I'm coming to get you, just tell me where you are."

She felt a smile curving up her lips. He was adorable and really caring. She felt an unfamiliar ache as she realised she'd hidden a very big part of her life from him all these years; and she knew she just wasnt ready to tell him yet.

" Chloe? Are you okay?" Reece's words brought her back to reality.

" Yeah I'm fine. I just came by the beach. I found the weather too good. I'm sorry for not informing you."

" No need. You just stay there. I'l come to get you."

" No, no need." she replied a little too fast, panicked. " I was just leaving. I'l b fine promise."

" Okay. Take care. And give me a call if you need anything."

" Yeah bye."

Though she was relieved to have ended the call, she knew she'l have to face Reece sooner or later.
