"Can you see if you can find Ambrose for me, sweetheart?" Hilda asked her niece, as nothing else seemed to be a fitting solution. They needed his help. There was no way out of this without another witch or warlock up to their full potential.
"What if I can't find him. Oh, auntie what should we do?" Sabrina said, losing the last of her calm.
"Then just bring anyone for that matter. A witch or a warlock, I don't care as long as they can help us," Hilda said and with a small nod Sabrina vanished.
"I need a vacation after this," Mary muttered under her breath and Hilda chuckled.
"You just came back from one," Hilda said and Mary opened her eyes to shoot her an annoyed glance.
"But between my vacation and today lies a beaten body and a war with Satan's little puppet," Mary growled and Hilda made a pillow magically appear.
"Lift your head," she said and put the pillow underneath it so Mary could put it back down as quickly as possible.
"I see, we're going for the luxury upgrade."
"I am glad you can joke about it."
"If I could move, I'd be next to Zelda and worrying to death but I might as well enjoy the moment of calmness if I can't move."
"That's true."
"I can feel her nuzzled against my mind. She's in a very deep slumber. I can't reach her but I can feel her again. That's enough to satisfy my worry for now. It doesn't do any good if I panic like a headless chicken. We need to keep a clear head, now more than ever," Mary said and Hilda nodded shortly.
"You do know that things need to move quickly now, don't you?" Hilda took the opportunity to have some real talk with the brunette. She knew that as soon as Sabrina was back, there wouldn't be much time for that, as more important things had to be done.
With Zelda being her usual self, Hilda was sure she wouldn't be able to voice her opinion freely, as her sister would see to commenting every single sentence that left her mouth, judging. That's why she had to use the opportunity to talk to Mary, knowing that she would be taken seriously.
"I know. We can't just wait for the next attack. It's bad enough that this one happened. It should have never come to this. We should have worked together instead of against each other. I shouldn't have tried to shut everyone out..." Mary said and Hilda could tell that she was close to tears.
"It's okay, Mary. It happened. We can't change the past and beating ourselves up because of it won't make it any less painful. What's important is to move on from it smarter. Don't do the same mistakes again. We learnt from it, we move on and become invincible," Hilda said and Mary tried to nod but the soaring pain inside of her head made her snarl in disdain.
"As soon as we're all mended and all in one, we'll have to do some war planning," Mary said and Hilda knew that the brunette was right. There was no way around it, as unpleasant as it may be. The recent event had just proven how vulnerable they were.
"You're right. We can't pretend that we're safe. Truth is, we're not and the sooner we have a plan, the sooner we'll be safe again," Hilda said and appreciated the honesty.
"And after we managed to take down the Dark Lord, then we'll have time for a family vacation," Mary said, making Hilda laugh again.
"You're pretty set on that vacation," Hilda said and Mary just chuckled.
"Dear, get as old as me and you'll understand just how precious vacations are. Especially when you have the people you love with you."
"I hope you could enjoy your vacation, or at least that what you spent there."
"It was quiet lovely until Satan himself sent us holiday greetings," Mary joked and neither of them had the energy to laugh anymore.
"I can't imagine what it must have been like to live under his reign."
"I wouldn't wish it upon my worst enemy. Now, that I am finally out of it, I can see just how miserable I was. I didn't want to admit it to myself, always devoted to him. After all he wanted to make me his queen but he was just playing with me. He never planned on making me anything but his servant."
"I am sorry that he did that to you. He had no right."
"Don't feel sorry for me. I haven't been exactly a saint either."
"But that doesn't justify what he did to you. Unlike him you're trying to change, you're trying to become a better person and that's what matters to me. I don't care what you did in your past. I can see how much you want to start this whole new and exciting life with Zelda and I can see how much you're trying to adjust to it. I see all these changes and I can't say how proud I am of you for pulling through."
A tear was rolling down Mary's cheek and Hilda wiped it away carefully.
"All I ever wanted was to belong somewhere and I think I do now," Mary said and Hilda nodded.
"You belong to us now. We're family," Hilda said and squeezed her hand softly, making sure to show her just how much she is appreciated and wanted.
Mary was about to say something else, when Sabrina and Ambrose suddenly appeared next to them.
"Good Lord, what happened?" Ambrose asked at the sight of Mary and the brunette just chuckled.
"How charming you are," Mary said.
"We need to teleport them into the house. You know the spell. The faster we can get them there, the faster we can heal their wounds," Hilda said and all of them grabbed each other's hands, casting the spell that would bring them into the safety of their own home, offering the much needed tools to tend to the battle wounds.
