The female known as Sylvie sighed as she looked up at the door in front of her. While she was adjusting to the life of a monster fairly quickly one thing she was having trouble with was learning how to use magic. So after looking around the campus for several hours, she had finally found someone that she thought would be helpful. Someone was teaching a class on magic. It was meant for races that didn't have natural magic reserves so it was harder for them to learn. However, since Sylvie didn't know how to use magic either she thought it would be fine for her to attend as well.
Sylvie then knocked on the door and after a moment she heard someone from the other side rush to the door and open it. She was a fairly slim female with long dirty blonde hair that came down to the middle of her back with deep brown eyes. She seemed to be wearing a dress that resembled a flower that had been turned upside down. She also had two large wings on her back that were clear and colored rather oddly giving them the appearance of stained glass. "Oh, hello. Are you here for the lesson?" The female asked as she looked at Sylvie causing her to nod.
"Great, please come in," The female said as she opened the door for her allowing Sylvie to enter the room and begin looking around. The room seemed to be fairly generic suggesting this wasn't where she spent most of her time and most likely only slept here, or came here when she had nothing better to do. "I was actually afraid no one was going to show up," The female said as she shut the door and walked into the large and rather open room.
"Alright so, do you have the money?" She asked as she looked at Sylvie when she said this Sylvie nodded and pulled out the money as requested handing it to her. "Great!" The female said as she took the money placing it in her pocket. "Alright so my name is Kautrīgs, and I'm a pixie," The female said as she looked at the female in front of her.
"I'm Sylvie and I'm a demon, vampire hybrid," Sylvie said as she looked at the female in front of her.
"I uh . . . I see, well I guess that does make things a bit easier. So then tell me, Sylvie, what exactly do you know about magic?" Kautrīgs asked as she looked at the female in front of her.
"Well, nothing really. I learned how to do this thing with wind a while ago, but . . . it's sort of went away now," Sylvie said as she looked at Kautrīgs.
"I see, well then let's start with the basics," Kautrīgs said as she looked at Sylvie. "Magic, also known as spellworking, is the art or ability to alter the world through untapped energy. Call this energy whatever you will, mana, ether, void, I can assure you the result will be the same. Magic is the manipulation of this untapped energy to directly control reality in some way. The individual casting of this force to form a mystical effect is called a spell. I know it's pretty basic level stuff so far but is there anything that you'd like to know so far?" Kautrīgs asked as she looked at Sylvie causing her to nod.
"Yes, I was curious, do you know why the names for men and women that use magic split? Like why are women called witches and why are men called wizards?" Sylvie asked as she looked at the female in front of her.
"Ah, well we more or less have humans to blame for that one. You see among monsters the names mean something else. Your title is given to you depending on use your magic for. If you use it to heal others and make medicine, you're a witch. If you use it to study the finer, more intricate parts of magic and the universe, studying the 'science' of magic I guess you could say, then you're a wizard. It goes on even further beyond that as well, if you use your magic for inventing and furthering progression you're a sorcerer, if you use it for selfish gain and power you're a warlock," Kautrīgs said as she looked at Sylvie
"Anyway moving on, although all races generally possess some degree of magical aptitudes, even humans, some monster are just more adept at using it. It's even become imbedded into some monsters genetics, such as vampires being adept at using illusion spells but being fairly bad at all other forms of magic," Kautrīgs said as she looked at Sylvie causing her to once again intervene.
