“Good, come on,” Dezmin said, snapping his head to the door. He jumped out of the truck, turning around to help me out.

“Watch your step this time, I don’t think I can make it around the truck this time to save your face from eating dirt,” Brenton said from the front seat. A diminutive smirk lit his face as the glow from the dazzling moon shone on his face through the window. His dark tan went well with his black hair as it fanned around his face.

“Thanks, Brenton!” I said with a smile, just a slight raise of the corners of my lips. I started to walk away as he called out to me.

            “Hey, Skye,” he called.

“Yeah,” I answered, turning back to him before Dezmin could shut the door.

“Take an easy on Izbel. She, like the rest of us, are not allowed to tell you what is really going on. I’m sorry, though.” I glanced over to watch Izbel as she unlocked the front door of the house and slammed it behind her. For some reason I had a feeling that she locked the door. Yeah, that sounded like something that she would do.

“Yeah, sure,” I groaned with sarcasm in every syllable.

“Izbel, do you mind showing us your mark?” Clinton asked.

“My what?” I asked. Brenton reached over to slap Clinton in the chest as he glared at him. The slap rung out; it must have hurt because he grabbed at his chest with a wow look on his face.

“Your tattoo,” Brenton said. I spun around, lifting my shirt in the back, just enough to show them what they wanted to see. I held it there for a few more seconds before turning back around to see their faces. Clinton’s face was full of enjoyment and laughter. Brenton’s face was the complete opposite. His expression showed concern and gloom. I never got to ask him ‘what was the matter’, because Dezmin grabbed my hand and pulled me up the driveway.

“See ya later,” Clinton smirked looking from Brenton to me. He was up to something. Brenton’s stayed staring at me so I waved, and continued to walk to the door with my hand in Dezmin’s. He held my hand tight; I could feel the strength in it.

“Are you going to talk to your sister?” Dezmin asked as we came upon the front door of the house.

“Why?” I responded with a groan.

“Because, Skye! I think what you said really upset her.”

“I’m upset, too. And I highly doubt that she is behind the door waiting to talk to me.”

“I highly doubt it, too. You should still talk to her, though,” Dezmin continued to push me to speak to my sister.

“Is she going to answer my questions…umm…NO!” I bellowed. I didn’t mean to shout at him, but I was getting irritated by the fact that I wasn’t getting answers; I hated being left in the freaky dark.

            “You’re right. No, she won’t.”

            “Will you?”

“No! If it’s any constellation, I’ve been through the same thing. We all have gone through this, not too long ago,” he crooned.

“Really?” I asked. I stared at him as he nodded his head, yes. Strands of his long dark hair fell into his face.

The fact that I wasn’t the only one that went through this…whatever it was, made me feel a lot better. I didn’t know what this was that I was going through, but Dezmin said ‘we’. I figured he meant Brenton, Clinton, and Izbel as well.
