I had imagined spending my Saturday night curled up with an ungodly amount of snacks and binge watching The Handmaid's Tale. I wasn't planning on spending my Saturday evening shopping with Jamie and I certainly didn't expect to be spending what little money I had on a new outfit.

"If we're going out tonight, we have got to step!" Jamie had explained.

Exasperated, I threw on a hoodie, hopped in her car and we headed to the mall. Well, our town didn't really have a mall. Seranton was a medium sized town near Baltimore. We had a community college, two high schools, and a cluster of clothing stores and restaurants. There were underdeveloped woods that surrounded one half of the town, hence the the name of my high-school, Seranton Woods. Seranton Falls was located on the opposite side of town and since they were the only other high school in the area, they were our rivals.

"How about this?" Jamie questioned, holding up a black, lace top.

"It's nice." I replied, returning to my phone.

"Ugh, you're no help. What's the point of having a guy best friend if you're not gonna help me get other guys!" She grabbed the stack of clothes she'd been hauling around and went to harass the sales associate about what looked best.

I rolled my eyes and went to find something to occupy myself. If I was going to be here all night then I might as well find something decent for myself. I headed to the men's section of the store, taking in the variety of clothing.

My wardrobe wasn't exceptionally colorful but I also wasn't one for just blacks, grays, and browns. Nothing stood out to me though. I continued down the aisle searching for something that was stylish but not like I was trying to hard. I figured I'd just wear jeans and a long-sleeve tee. After the first couple racks, I started to get bored but I knew Jamie was nowhere finished. So, to pass time, I started scanning through clothes on autopilot. praying that Jamie would somehow decide what she wanted to wear.

"Too short. Too long. Too bulky. Too yellow. Too-"

Blam! I put my hands up to meet a very sturdy chest.

"Oh fuck sorr-" I looked up to meet the nicest pair of green eyes I had ever seen. Attached to them was a doe-eyed and quite handsome young man. He had shiny brunette locks, a defined jawline and luscious, pink lips-

"Oh my god I'm staring" I thought

"Er-"

"Isn't stuttering great?"

"Sorry" I finally managed to choke out.

Instead of laughing or ignoring me and walking away, the green-eyed boy surprised me. He cracked a smile, just as captivating as his eyes. His smile revealed an array of even, white teeth and a dimple in his left cheek.

"Its okay," He began. "I tend to have that effect on people."

Wait. So not only was the green-eyed boy gorgeous, and charming; he was flirting with me?

"Ha" I let out weakly. I'm surprised my voice even managed that. I groaned inwardly.

He gave me another one of his dazzling smiles. He stuck out his hand.

"James" He let out in a smooth baritone.

"David" I let out breathlessly. "Get it together!"

"Nice to meet you," He continued. His eyes focused in on the Seranton Woods hoodie I was wearing.

"Yikes" He said, sucking air. "Ser-Woods?" He asked, referring to the bitter rivalry between our schools.

"So much for having a shot with Mr. Tall, green-eyed, and handsome."

"Go wolves" I cheered halfheartedly.

He placed a finger on his chin in mock contemplation before enthusiastically shaking his head in acceptance.
"I like a little spice in my life"

I felt my cheeks beginning to heat up. I bashfully turned my head away from him as I broke into an involuntary smile.

"Don't look away" He said softly.

I felt more blood rush to my face. At this point, I knew that even the tips of my ears were red. I had obviously died and gone to heaven. But my fantasy came to an abrupt end as I heard Jamie call out my name in a demanding screech.

"David!" She screamed.

I flinched slightly at the way she called out my name. Why was I friends with her again? I turned back to James.

"I'm guessing that's your girlfriend?" He said sympathetically.

I scoffed. "Ha! Never."

"So you're single?" He said with a raised eyebrow.

"As a pringle!" I beamed. I shuddered realizing how corny I sound.

"I mean yeah, I'm single."

James just smiled. "Then could I get your number?"

I nearly passed out. "Sure."

I handed him my phone and he quickly punched his number in. He even called himself.

"Gotta make sure you're not giving me a fake number"

"Damn he really knows how to make a boy swoon".

We stared at each other for a second. "I should get ready to go" I managed breathlessly. He was just so mesmerizing.

"Text me" He said, not breaking eye contact.

I turned and hurried back to Jamie before she screamed my name again. I tried my best to ignore the sudden tightness in my jeans.

"Where the hell were you?' She asked.

"Just looking around" I answered.

My phone buzzed and I looked at my most recent notification.

'I loved watching you walk away'

My cheeks burned and I cast a knowing glance towards the men's section.

"Maybe going outside isn't so bad after all."
