One minute, I was storming through the party. I was drunk and angry and I was trying to find a place where I could be alone. I stopped to find an exit and in the background heard the growing sounds of a bitter argument. My ears had grown accustomed to the tell-tale signs of a fight.

"Fuck off." I heard, low and dangerous.

Then the sound of flesh meeting flesh and a grunt. Then, a growl?

Just as I turned, I caught a subtle whiff of pine. But there was something deeper to it. I had no time to ponder it because in an instant, I felt a hard body slam into my side, thrusting me against the wall.

My head slammed into the wall. The recoil on my body from the hitting the wall sent shock waves of pain through my neck. I clenched my teeth as I hissed in pain. I slid down the wall as the hard body recovered quickly and went back to his opponent. I had my eyes closed as I tried to process the pain.

Squelch! I couldn't see anything but I heard the sound of a punch, a hard one at that. I heard gasps and the sound of cameras shuttering. Then, a scream.

"Holy fuck, he's bleeding!" They shouted.

"I wondering whose bleeding"  I thought.

I felt something hot and slick sliding down the side of my face.

"Shit. I didn't think I was the one who'd be bleeding"

I forced my eyes open and as I regained my vision, I met the eyes of dozens of people staring at me. My eyes focused on the two people who were fighting. I couldn't see the first person but I noticed the other man instantly.

Leon Marino. Quarterback. Track Captain. Player. And asshole. I remembered junior year when he and the other high school psychopaths exposed several girls' nudes. During the investigation, they beat up any dude willing to testify against them and the girls who nudes weren't exposed were too afraid to come forward. I remember the sick grin that was spread across his face as he cockily walked out of Dean Holter's office with no consequence, the girls who had been exposed sobbed into each other's arms nearby. Leon had the same sick grin across his face. A huge bruise spread across his face. His lip had a huge gash but no blood poured. I wondered what the other guy looked like.

They were each restrained by a couple of other guys. I could only imagine how strong they had to be for it to take multiple people to hold them back. My heart felt for whoever was unfortunate to go against Leon.

Suddenly, I felt a hand slide under my arm, and then my another under my other arm.

"We're gonna get you home buddy" I heard from James' soft baritone.

I looked up to his vibrant green eyes. I turned to see Jamie's sorrowful expression. I felt bad for making such a scene. If I had of just been cool, I wouldn't be slumped against a wall bleeding.

I inhaled. I wasn't going to cry this time. Being emotional got me nowhere so if I was gonna cry, it was gonna be in my room where no one could hear me.

I nodded, and they both pulled me to my feet. I felt a nauseated feeling in my stomach as soon as I stood up.

"I'm wasted"

I ended up leaning much more heavily on James than I intended. Together, the three of us hobbled through the groups of people who had returned to their partying. I noticed that in order to get to the front door we had to cut through were the fight had started.

Out of nowhere, the peace dissipated. A sea of bodies surged forward, and I slipped from James grasp. Jamie fell forward, unable to balance herself, and pulled me, and another person down with her. I reached out and grabbed a surprisingly sturdy torso, barely managing to hang on. I felt the body stiffen and I got the familiar scent of pine and mix of something deeper. It was very pleasurable to my senses. I involuntarily inhaled and my nose tingled with delight.

I steadied myself and looked up at my savior. My eyes met the most captivating pair of golden eyes I had ever seen. They were deep and reflective like honey, flashing even in the poor light. Their beauty rivaled even James'.

I knew those eyes. They belonged to the handsomest boy at Seranton Woods. Six foot three with killer eyes and illustrious black hair. The captain of both the football and basketball team. The top of our class. Voted most likely to be in Forbes 400.

Cain Reynolds.

My eyes traveled the length of his hard jaw, dusted with fine dark hairs. He had luscious pink lips that rested in an even leer. His eyes met mine and I felt a growing heat in the pits of my stomach. His eyes moved from my face to the wound on the side of my head. I saw his expression morph into a look of pure malice.

"Holy shit. I'm dead."

Suddenly, the bodies around us parted and Cain was tackled from my grasp.  Suddenly, I could breathe again. I felt a hand on my shoulder. Jamie had managed to get up. She motioned towards the door so I wrapped my arm around her shoulder, and in the midst of the fighting we continued to the exit. I cast another look towards where the two boys were fighting on the floor.

"Cain Reynolds."

Me and Jamie made it outside. I told her to stop while I called James to make sure he was okay. He didn't answer the first call but as I dialed his number again, I saw his form come out the house. I sighed in relief.

"I'm glad you're alright." He said breathlessly.

I smiled exasperatedly. "The same to you."

James sat with me on the stairs while Jamie went to get the car. He and Jamie helped me get in the car. Once he'd closed the door, he gave me a smile.

"I know you're probably not gonna remember this but, I wanted to do this all night" He said softly. He placed a quick peck on my lips and gave me a sheepish smile. He waved at Jamie whose jaw was nearly touching her lap.

She turned to me for explanation but I could only give her a weak smile as liquor, pain, and sleepiness began to overtake me. But there was still one thought burning in the back of my mind.

"Cain Reynolds"

That was my last thought before I passed out.
