"He's waking up" Someone uttered. The distorted cacophony of voices faded as I slowly opened my eyes.

In my grogginess, my eyes wandered the room, searching for something to remind me where I was. The faded teal of the walls and the posters plastered around the room told that I was in the nurses office. My eyes focused in on the people surrounding me. Alexander. Mr. Solomon. Nurse Jane. Cain.

My heart began to palpitate.

Nurse Jane snapped. "Cain!" She scolded.
"Get out. Now!"

Cain's dark eyes held the older woman's gaze. He huffed and glanced back at me before walking out the room, Alexander following right behind.

Mr. Solomon whispered something into Nurse Jane's ear before going to join the boys outside.

Nurse Jane turned to me smiling gently.

"David. How are you feeling?" She spoke softly.

I was confused. What the hell had transpired. The last thing I remembered I was heading the bathroom. Cain's face suddenly flashed across the backdrop of my mind.

"Cain was there. And he was gonna kill me. Until Alexander saved me?"

"David?" Nurse Jane probed gently.

I gave her my attention. She had all the perpetrators in here, surely she knew what had happened. I knew Cain hadn't hurt me. I felt no soreness or pain.

"What happened to me?" I asked.

Nurse Jane smiled again. "You passed out in the restroom. Cain and Alexander brought you to my office."

So I fainted? That makes sense for the large patch of time missing. But Cain was there before everything went black. I frowned.

"Cain was there before I fainted"

Nurse Jane continued to smile. "You should be grateful to Cain. He carried you all the way here by himself."

This wasn't making sense. Cain was there before I fainted. I remembered his scent invading my space. My breathe quickened as the panic I'd experience earlier returned. Cain had been the reason I fainted. I recalled his stern face as he closed in on me.

Had they lied to Nurse Jane? In an attempt to spare themselves of the repercussions for making me pass out. No. I remember Cain's final words.

"I'm not going to to hurt him."

So he'd obviously had planned to find me in the restroom. But for what? I thought about all of our previous interactions. What had I done to garner Cain's hostility? Surely a bump at a party didn't warrant abuse. I wanted to go back to before Cain even knew I existed.

I turned away from Nurse Jane. "So what now?" I asked emptily. Nurse Jane placed a hand on my shoulder.

"Tell the boys thank you of course. If you want, you can stay here since school is over in forty-five minutes"

I nodded my agreement, more than happy to get this situation over. The nurse stared for a moment longer before heading out the door. In no time, Mr. Solomon walked in, followed by Alexander, and then Cain.
