The next couple of mornings were hectic. The emperor and empress even came to personally greet her on the first day. The empress continued to visit daily, but since the emperor was busy doing his emperor duties he didn't visit as often.
The first day was the most chaotic.
Xiao Yan had informed the emperor and empress of her awakening sometime when Zhen YiRong was sleeping and the moment she woke up she was pestered by them. Let's not forget her new sister, Zheng YiLing. The moment she was informed she had sprinted over with absolutely no grace whatsoever.
When the little girl arrived she was panting and sweating, causing many to frown in distaste, only to have it covered up in fear that their new rank one princess would kill them in anger, and they wouldn't be able to do a thing.
They all knew that the new princess was heavily favored by the emperor and the empress so they also knew that they shouldn't mess with the new princess.
Zheng YiRong was with Xiao Yan who was helping her drink her tonic to rid the rest of the poison in her body when Zheng YiLing sprinted in, closely followed by guards. Xiao Yan retreated back, and stood by the bedpost.
Why does her body have poison?
Good question. Apparently that bloody arrow had poison on it. If it had hit its original target. The empress's heart then she would be completely dead. Which had happened in the novel, causing the emperor, who had loved and adored the empress wholeheartedly, to go insane with anger and madness.
Zheng YiRong had frowned at her new sister when seeing YiLing's disheveled appearance. Her black silky strands were stuck to her face due to the sweat. The hanfu had slightly opened and the rapid panting had caused her face to flush red.
"Ling'er." Zheng YiRong sighed.
"Jiejie! You're awake! Ling'er is so happy!" YiLing completely ignored Zheng YiRong's tone and happily started chirping away. "When jiejie got shot by the arrow, father and meimei wouldn't do anything. That made Ling'er so mad! Father kept on worrying about meimei because she got scratched! She got a little cut that barely bleed and father was fussing over it like meimei was going to die from blood loss! While jiejie, you could have really died! If it weren't for the fast actions of his Majesty then Ling'er could have been left alone in this world! But jiejie didn't-"
"Ling'er." Zheng YiRong interrupted with a firmer tone, as the little girl told me what happened when she was in the coma. YiLing froze, finally taking in the tone. Tears started forming in the corner of her eyes as she shrunk her neck.
"Is jiejie mad at Ling'er?" She asked in a meek tone.
Zheng YiRong sighed. "Ling'er, Xiao Yan told me you are now a rank three princess. Is someone with that status suppose to run around with such an unsightly appearance?"
"But Ling'er wanted to see jiejie." Again a sigh escaped YiRing's lips as she stared at the face that has long been dubbed ugly due to the huge red birthmark that covered half of the face. Of course it wasn't just a birthmark, it was also part of the seal. The first part of the seal.
"I know you did, but you mustn't forget your manners." The previous Zheng YiRong had drilled her sister with the proper etiquette of a lady from a noble household. Not wanting to give anyone the chance to get another reason to beat them. Although the previous owner of this body doted as much as she could on her sister, she was strict when it came to teaching YiLing.
"I understand..." YiLing looked down with a ready face and letting out another sigh, she reached her hand over and gently patted her sister's head.
Later that day, the empress and emperor visited. YiLing has left after Xiao Yan's pestering about her health not being well and that she needed rest. Eventually YiLing left, still needing to explore the palace and all its buildings. When she heard that she could swear her eyes were twitching. How long have a been asleep?
Half.
A.
Year.
And YiLing hasn't been able to explore the palace yet?
Just how big is this place?
"The emperor and empress has arrived!" The eunuch announced. Almost on instinct she moved, trying to get out of bed to greet the two most powerful figures in the nation.
However, YiRong couldn't and instead also fell out of bed. She would have if it wasn't for Xiao Yan.
Well.. what was she expecting? She hasn't used any of her muscles for half a year. The emperor and empress came in on the scene of her nearly falling out of bed.
"Forego the formalities. You are now one of Us. There is no need for you to greet Us in the future." The emperor said.
There's no point in refusing so she simply nodded.
The three of them fell into a conversation as Xiao Yan brought in tea and snacks for the guests. The emperor soon left as he had duties to attend to but the empress stayed. Conversing about useless things.
"What kind of place would you like to live in, Rong'er?" The empress asked gently. YiRong thought about it before giving a calm smile.
"A place where it's not crowded or noisy. I would like my house to be surrounded by water, so it kind of looks like it's floating. In the water there will be fish and flowers. A pavilion would be nice to for the spring and summer seasons. Lot of plants and animals." One of the few interests that the soul shared with the previous Zheng YiRong was their love for nature. The empress nodded while having a thoughtful look on her face.
They talked for a bit more before the empress left with a very satisfied smile on her face, while YiRong sat looking on with confusion.
She simply shook it off before she ate her dinner and fell asleep.
Later that night
A girl lied on the bed. Her inky black hair rested on the bed, looking like the finest of silks. The eyes which were closed were graced with long, thick eyelashes. Her rosy, plump lips were slightly opened. Her chest was rising and falling at each breath. However the most enchanting thing was the little birthmark on her forehead, three petals that fanned out.
Although the girl was young, there was no denying the mature feeling she gave off. And there was no doubt in the future that she would be a beauty that would one day cause the downfall of a or several nations.
As the girl slept, a pink glow surrounded her. The birthmark on her forehead slowly changed. A line underneath a horseshoe. But in the next second it returned to its original shape. The three flower petals.
