It was black. An abyssal space that threatened to swallow everything whole. The space was so utterly empty that not even the whisper of the wind could enter.
There was a girl. Laying on the ground, sleeping. Covered in rags. She was young, with inky black hair that matched the black of the space. Her eyes were closed, the eyelashes long and thick. They were still, indicating the girl was sleeping. Elegant. Serene.
The lashes fluttered slightly like a butterfly that was waking up and stretching its wings. They parted slightly revealing pupils swirling with pastel colors. They were glazed, not focusing on anything, not realizing that she was in a black space.
The girl stood up, the hair cascading down her back like a waterfall. She looked forward, and took a step.
Like magic, the empty space slowly lit up with the brilliance of the stars. Golden and pure.
She took another step.
More stars revealed themselves.
Another step.
The girl turned into a woman, a celestial being of unworldly beauty.
Another step.
The clothes changed, into something not too fanciful, but nevertheless beautiful.
Another step.
Golden lights danced around her, forming a shape behind her.
The final step.
She arrived.
In front of her were glowing dots that were connected by bright lines forming a sideways triangle, coming from its top and bottom vertexes were lines. The line from the top vertex was longer and curved up at the end, while the line from the bottom was shorter and curved down at the end.
Zheng YiRong sat up. She looked out of the window into the wilderness of the mountains outside. It has been two years since she had taken over Zheng YiRong's body. Now she was 10, while Zheng YiLing was 8. Nothing huge has really happened besides for her birthday present this year. Which was the palace she was currently residing in. Built into the mountain, ponds of koi and lotus flowers everywhere. It was by no means small, but much smaller than the palace of the empress and emperor.
Zheng YiRong loves it. She adored the quite mornings and night. She loved the humming of birds and the rustle of trees. She felt calm around them. Zheng YiLing has gotten less clingy over the years and that was a relief. YiLing now lived with the empress and emperor and would occasionally visit. She was still a lively and cheerful girl, but now she had at least some form of restraint.
Zheng YiRong walked towards the window and looked up into the star specked sky. It was beautiful and clear, not deluded with pollution like her previous world. Zheng YiRong took a deep breath, she should probably get outside tomorrow, it's been quite the time since she had felt the sun truly on her skin.
She walked back to bed, lying down she stared at the ceiling. Then she got up and went to her cupboard. Zheng YiRong's room was simple. A bed, a table, a cupboard for her tea, a window, and a closet. Zheng YiRong skillfully brewed herself some tea to drink. Losing herself in to the calmness the tea provided.
Through the years, Zheng YiRong's beauty has not lessen and instead grown into a beauty who would turn heads no matter what she wore.
Zheng YiRong leaned against the window and continued to drink her tea.
When Xiao Yan came into the room later sleep had greeted YiRong.
———Later that day———
"Miss, are sure about this? If you want something this servant can send a guard out..."
"Xiao Yan, I'll be fine."
"But-"
"Xiao Yan." The maid froze at the tone of her master. "Don't push me."
Xiao Yan looked down. Her master was always so kind and gentle she almost forgot that this master of hers was someone who has survived the schemes of many at the tender age of five. And it was not because she was lucky.
"Yes.." the girl bowed her head to a younger girl. Zheng YiRong sighed. Yes, it was harsh, but it was necessary. In this world, she could not be a Mary Sue and tell this maid of hers that they were equal. Cause in reality, they were not. It was the cold harsh truth that must be embraced. If she treated Xiao Yan too well, she would grow arrogant and forget that she was a maid. Even if Zheng YiRong could protect Xiao Yan in the Yi Kingdom, but what would happen if Xiao Yan offended a higher up from another Kingdom? It would end in a beating at the very best and death at worst, even if Zheng YiRong begged and pleaded for her.
It was the harsh reality of this world, and it still can still undeniably be seen in modern day society.
"Help me get dressed." Zheng YiRong said. Xiao Yan bowed and quickly helped her put on a dress and put her hair up in a ponytail. "Grab some gold coins, I wish to look around the bustling capital of Yi." Xiao Yan bowed and scurried away to grab a pouch of coins.
"Should this servant call a guard to accompany us?"
"No, you can do that job." Zheng YiRong smiled, she knew that Xiao Yan was in fact trained in martial arts since young, even before the maid started serving her. "Shall we get going?" Zheng YiRong asked as Xiao Yan placed a cloak on her. The maid nodded eagerly, it has been a long time since she had visited the bustling streets of the capital. "Then let's go."
