"Miss it's getting late." Xiao Yan said, glancing at the sun which has started to lower itself towards the horizon. Zheng YiRong hummed, indicating to Xiao Yan that she had heard.

It was late evening now, although it was still quite bright outside, in less than two hours the world would sink into darkness, getting back to the house would take at least half an hour since they had walked here.

"We should head back," YiRong said, looking at the marketplace before turning to Xiao Yan who was walking slightly behind YiRong. Xiao Yan nodded and started to direct her young miss towards the direction of their palace.

Right as they were about to leave the marketplace though, a yell cut through the happy chattering.

"You smelly thief! How dare you try to steal my bread!" Xiao Yan wanted to usher her miss away from the commotion but was stopped by Zheng YiRong. YiRong started to walk towards the yelling, while pushing through the crowd that had gathered all the while Xiao Yan gave a small sigh before chasing her miss.

At the front of the crowd, YiRong saw a man with a pot belly beating a small, dirty child who was curled up in a defenseless position. Her eyes immediately narrowed as unpleasant memories rose up before she violently suppressed them.

"Xiao Yan."

"Yes, miss." Although YiRong didn't tell her maid to do something, her expression was more than enough. Xiao Yan, who was trained in martial arts since the tender age of six moved forward and blocked the man who was about to slap the child. Twisting his arm and pinning them to his back the man yelled in pain.

Murmurs rippled through the crowd as the child looked up, his fierce silver eyes scanned the crowd before landing on YiRong's cloaked figure.

YiRong walked forward, "It seems that people these days cannot even share their bread with a starving child." Her words, soft, yet full of venom silenced the whispering crowd and caused the man to look up. Fear was evident in his eyes as he realized the person standing in front of him was radiating an aura that no ordinary person would have.

"He stole it!" The man said, trying to justify his actions.

"So that's why you decided to beat the child black and blue. Interesting." The man on the ground started to tremble. YiRong motioned to Xiao Yan who released the man. "This should be enough to pay for the bread.." YiRong smiled as Xiao Yan dropped a gold coin onto the ground, "Or do you want more, after all my servant just attacked you." The man started to quiver like a leaf.

"N-no! This is more than enough, please take more bread if you want to!" The man who hadn't gotten up kneeled in the dirty floor and kept his head down.

YiRong smiled and glanced at the boy on the ground he had gotten up and was hugging the squashed and dirty bread to his chest with one arm while the other hugged his stomach in pain.

"You shouldn't steal." She said as the boy pursed his lips into a frown.

"I don't have any money." He spit out, glaring at her which caused her to chuckle.

"Then work." The boy looked at her and said nothing but it was clear that he had tried to get a job, but nobody would take him in because of how dirty and smelly he was. "Work for me." YiRong said with a smile. Although nobody could see it, the boy stood transfixed staring at the small girl who stood in front of him. "I'll pay you, give you food, and a place to sleep, sheltered from the rain." The boy said nothing, "What do you think."

"I can't." Xiao Yan frowned wanting to step forward but was stopped. "I have people I have to take care of."

"Bring them along, it wouldn't be bad to have more company in the house." The boy's head snapped up, "Of course they'll also have to work, I won't pay or shelter people who don't work their share."

"I can't decide for them, if they want to go, then I'll go too, if they don't, I won't." The boy said.

"Fair enough. We'll wait here, but please be quick, I do have to hurry home before people come searching for me." YiRong waved the boy off and the boy pushed past the crowd and disappeared.

"Miss, I don't think you should hire them." A woman from the crowd stepped forward, Xiao Yan justes looked at the woman coldly.

"It's none of your business, besides who said you could speak to my miss?" The woman frowned and wanted to say something before she backed off.

"Sorry," she mumbled.

The crowd, with nothing to watch anymore dispersed and went off on their way. After about ten minutes of waiting three children appeared. One girl and two boy.

"We'll go with you, if you promise us that we'll be safe and fed." The boy said.

"Good," YiRong said, "Xiao Yan, it's time to go home."
