I ran. There was nothing to it, just to be as far away from the deaths of my allies. Kenny and Casper. I shuddered. My steps slowed, and as I ducked under a branch, my foot hit a root, and I fell. But instead of getting up and walking on, I stayed there. And cried. I felt a hand on my shoulder, stroking my hair, and muttering kind things in my ear.

"Shh. Its okay. You're okay. Theres no need to cry. Nobody's gonna hurt you. You're okay," said a girl by my side.

I looked up. A young girl, no more than 12, was sitting next to me. I wondered how she had gotten into the games, because all entrants had to be 14. And then I realized she was a volunteer, which could be any age older than 8 and younger than 18.

Her kind brown eyes twinkled as I sat up and wiped the tears off my face.

"Hi. You looked lonely, so I came over to see if you were okay," she smiled.

"Umm, yeah. Thanks for asking. I'm Clover, by the way," I said, smiling faintly.

She grinned, and introduced herself as Kylie. We didn't have to ask, it was already implied that we were allies. She didn't have any food, but she did have a katana, and with her asian heritage, she looked like a ninja.

Some days passed in a blur, but some were long and tedious. Those days were ones without food, ones where we constantly moved camp. She had lost two allies who went to the careers, leaving her alone. She had yet to run into a monster, but she shuddered the whole time I told her about my minotaur attack.

Our 2nd day as allies, we decided to head for the cornucopia. As we crunched through the autumn leaves, I heard a faint meow.

"Did you hear that?" I asked Kylie.

She nodded, and we walked towards the sound. Personally, I LOVE cats, so I was set on finding this kitten. The mewing grew louder, and finally we walked into a clearing. In the middle of it sat an adorable little fluffy black kitten. I noticed she hung back, and explained that she was more of a dog person. I walked towards the kitten, and held out my hand. But in a flash of black, the kitten became a black puma, and charged me. I flipped over it, my head reeling. I found myself mumbling the words, "nugget, biscuit, nugget in a biscuit," as I leaped, dodged, and rolled, countering the puma's strikes. And then I realized something. If the puma is a modified kitten, it should still have the mind of a kitten, right?

I walked up to the puma, no longer dodging its attacks. As I reached out my hand, like before, and scratched under its chin, it turned back inot a kitten. I picked it up, and was pleased to hear its purrs.

"Can you hand me some of that bird we caught yesterday?" I asked Kylie. She stared at me as if I was crazy, but threw me a chunk of the wild fowl anyway. I ate two bites, then held it to the kitten. He ate daintily, licking his paws after.

"Aww, whos an adorable Nugget? Whos a cute kitten?" I crooned to Nugget, finally giving him a name. He nuzzled my hand and I grabbed Kylie, and off we went.
