Summary: I turn off my phone and shove it into my pocket as I look around, noticing how gray and gloomy it suddenly became. A little scared, I walk down the steps, pressing a few button's here and there, along with a swipe of my key card, and the door shuts. Honestly, at this point I'm scared to even look outside. By the time I get down stairs, we all head to a section of the metal encased basement, towards the library as Thomas, Logan, Roman, and I sit down. This was going to be a long day.

As Remy rushed us down to the basement, we realized just how much the laboratory hadn't been used in the past few years. It must've been renovated before our arrival because everything from the ground level up had been clean and sleek, giving it a much more modern look, however, the basement was old and covered in webs while old, dusty books still lined the walls. Why was it left like this? Without a light to turn on, Roman and Thomas took out their phones and used their flash lights in order to find a seat. I continued to examine the untouched surroundings as I found an old wooden, battered desk.
An old lamp stood idely on the woodden desk as I approached the table, making it seem as though it had been guarding the desk for many years. Carefully, I pulled the lamp's chain to see if it would work, and just as I had hoped, a soft light glowed showing old, faded papers covered in coffee stains which were scattered haphazardly on the scratched surface. Beneath the papers laid a leather bound book with a latch and a lock. Whoever owned this book... didn't want anyone to know what was in it. What was here in this enclosed forest.
I hear faint footsteps behind me as I search the desk, reading the papers, and searching for any compartments that may hold the key to this journal. I felt a small dip within the book's cover as I held it in my hands. Scanning the cover, I found a name inscribed into it.
"R-Remus?" I read aloud, the basement quickly growing quiet as Remy stopped nagging us.
"The leather boom says Remus." I whispered as shock hit me quickly and without mercy. I turn to Roman, almost giving myself whiplash as my eyes go wide.
"Roman...Remus...he's your..." I mumble out as he quickly stands up, taking the journal from my hands. He examines the leather book, checking every crease and dip in the book's leather before staring at the name carved into it.
"My brother...this is where he went? After he left the family, he came here...?" He mumbled faintly as a sudden spark seemed to shine in his eyes.
"It needs a key...my brother gave me a key before he left. He said when it was time I'd use the key."
"Where's the key Roman?" Thomas chimed in as he sat in the plush recliner.
"It's in my bag..."
"What?!" Remy exclaimed, shock, anger, fear. A sudden rush of emotions rushing through him all at once.
"It's in my bag upstairs." Roman groaned out as he ran his hand through his brown locks, "I have to go upstairs and get it."
"Oh no! Hell no, over my dead body!" Remy yelled as the ceiling released dirt while the lamp flickered. The four of us grew silent once more as there was a creak above us. Remy went to speak again but I quickly signalled for him to stay quiet. He kept his mouth shut as heavy foot steps could be heard above us. The foot steps slowly faded from heavy to light, to lighter until a familiar voice could be heard.
"Baby~. Where are you~?" Our eyes went wide as Remy tried to go up stairs to the familiar sound but was quickly stopped by Roman.
"Remy? Babe, where are you?" There's no way Chris was here now? He couldn't be. I look over to Remy and he quickly shakes his head and mouths,
'We need to get out of here.'
Thomas looks confused as he attempts to call out to the voice upstairs. I dash over and cover his mouth to prevent the possibility of death. The confusion only growing in his eyes, I quickly bring my finger to my lips, signalling for him to stay quiet. Meanwhile, it's dead silent upstairs. The alleged Chris stopped calling for Remy while we heard footsteps. Gradually, the footsteps began to get quieter and quieter until the sound disappeared.
Not releasing my hand from Thomas' mouth, I listened carefully. Something's not right. I beckon over Roman and Remy before they attempt to go back upstairs, potentially saving their lives. I huddle us up together and I whisper my thoughts in a low voice.
"That has to be a creature. It's most likely highly dangerous, especially considering the fact that it can change it's voice and control it's footsteps. With a creature like that inside of the laboratory, there's no way we can just walk up those stairs."
"What's the probability that it's actually gone." Roman chimes in, most likely trying to make light of the situation.
"At least zero point one percent. This creature has most likely been here for years...and since we're new...prey...it doesn't know our patterns yet. Most likely, that creature is still upstairs."
"So we're stuck down here is what you're saying?" Remy asks, concern plastered all over his face.
"Not necessarily. Everything upstairs had been renovated. Bullet proof glass, security locks, habitats. So why is everything upstairs changed and the basement is untouched?"
"Because it wasn't meant to be touched." Roman stated, realization coming to him quickly.
"Precisely. If anything, I'm willing to bet that your brother, Remus," I say turning to Roman, " knew something like this would happen one day. Therefore there has to be a hidden path somewhere down here." I whisper quietly as I begin to think of all the possibilities that could occur in this one moment.
"I guess we should start looking then... shouldn't we?" Roman whispers back, a hint of determination laced in his voice. We need to escape quickly...because I have a sneaking feeling...that this creature...wants us dead.
