Summary:
"Not necessarily. Everything upstairs had been renovated. Bullet proof glass, security locks, habitats. So why is everything upstairs changed and the basement is untouched?"

"Because it wasn't meant to be touched." Roman stated, realization coming to him quickly.

"Precisely. If anything, I'm willing to bet that your brother, Remus," I say turning to Roman, " knew something like this would happen one day. Therefore there has to be a hidden path somewhere down here." I whisper quietly as I begin to think of all the possibilities that could occur in this one moment.

"I guess we should start looking then... shouldn't we?" Roman whispers back, a hint of determination laced in his voice. We need to escape quickly...because I have a sneaking feeling...that this creature...wants us dead.

The four searched around the room rapidly, checking every nook and cranny to find a way out. With every second that passed a feeling of dread would quickly wash over them. Roman had turned to the point of the stereotypical "lever that looks like a book" in every book case method which quickly resulted in many books being scattered and thrown onto the floor from panic and insanity. The four had caused a great ruckus in Remus' old basement, more than likely angering the large beast above.

This was no creature...they thought. This...this was a monster. A monster out to kill them. This thought seemed to make the four move faster, no longer caring for what was and was not misplaced. Once the room had nothing left to throw off of shelves and move out of place, Logan had moved onto scouring the surface of the desk, rubbing away at the desk to find any trace of writings, passwords, codes, patterns, anything at all! Perhaps even a single number if he was lucky enough. Unfortunately, not a single thing appeared against the dark, wooden surface.

Continuing on through this rampage, Remy and moved onto moving the tall bookshelves to check if there had been anything carved or written on there. Under the long boards of wood the books once sat on and behind, at the dusty, cobwebbed backing of the shelves. Nothing. Eyes widening, hope and briefly flown over Roman's eyes in a reckless mannor. He rushed behind Remy and began to push and pull at every stone brick in the wall. Just a few would fall forward towards his feet...but nothing would be behind them.

They each continued on with this process, hoping Remus left an escape root somewhere down in the dusty basement. Anything for them to escape the dark room. The roof above them started release dust and dirt from the heavy footsteps above. The group began to move much more rapidly, desperately wanting to live. Wanting nothing more but to live. Roman became much more reckless in finding the escape route. The footsteps began to lighten once more as a deafening knock cracked against the door as the each started to throw shelves.

They looked until Roman had found something along one of the walls of stone. Unable to wipe it away with his calloused bloodies hands, he called the others over as they wiped at the stone frantically, finding a list. Why would a list be on a stone wall Logan thought. Until it hit him as he stared at the long list.

6 Bay Laurel
5 Lavender
7 Scented Geranium
3 Chervil
3 Garlic
4 Mints
2 Thyme
4 Sage
1 Caraway
2 Chives
4 Cilantro
2 Dill
1 Rosemary

Remus had never told Roman of making remedies or food with these ingredients. Quiet frankly, Remus couldn't cook at all, Roman started, sharing that information with the group. It seemed Roman didn't know a lot about his brother. The massive enclosed area they had been in had been miles long. If this had been a special medicine they would need in the future then they'd have to get out first, Thomas had stated.

"Be quiet." Logan stated bluntly before scanning his finger through the herbs.

"Six...bay laurel... U." Logan whispered back, his words just loud enough to hear.

"What?" The group asked in unison, confusion hitting them mercilessly

"The sixth letter in Bay Laurel is U," Logan stated louder this time as he continued on, " U, N, D, E, R, T, H, E, C, H, A, I, R. Under the chair." Logan stated loud enough for the group to hear as Roman rushed over to move the surprisingly heavy chairs, against the bare stone walls to find a hatch that had been under the chair. Quickly, Thomas took a picture of the list before rushing back over to the group. Hands scratched and injured, Roman lifted the heavy latch, adrenaline rush invading his veins as he lifted the latch enough for everyone to slip in, Remy and Thomas slipping in first...before a rough sound could be heard from above.

"Roman...? Are you down there? Could you let me in please? I- I seemed to have left my key down there. Could you let me in?" The "Remus" called from above. Roman froze for a moment and Logan stared at the tall male.

"Roman, that's not him..." Logan tried to convince him as Roman's hands began to let go of the latch.

"Roman, we just confirmed that, that's a large creature that can change it's footsteps and voice, maybe even appearances. Roman, you'll get killed, don't." Logan spoke, out of breath from trying to get his words out. It went silent between the two as Roman's grip tightened. He lifted the latch up more, causing it to creak just a bit until the Remus upstairs began to scream and yell for Roman. He quickly slipped into the hole himself, careful not to crush his fingers as he could hear metal being shredded and torn. It had gotten in. They each turn their flashlights on before running down the tunnels of rock and dirt. There had to be a way out.

As they ran and ran, the sounds of crashes and bangs seemed to fade out. Keeping their guard up, they walked down the tunnel to conserve energy. The walked for what felt like hours until faintly, a small light seemed to be at the end of it. Slowly, it began to grow larger and larger until they reached the exit. It had been a heavily secluded area with a pond, and abandoned hut, and vines draping over a cave. They escaped...but a sickening feeling told them they wouldn't be safe for long.
