"Tony," I say with a smile as I cross over from where Happy has parked in the airport carpark. He's already dressed in his Iron Man armour, but his helmet is off while he talks to us.
"Miss Holmes," Tony says in mock surprise. "Glad you could make it."
"Hey Mr Stark," Peter says, coming up from beside me.
"Hey there Spiderling. How's the suit?"
"Oh it's great, Mr Stark. It's brilliant!"
"Where is everyone?" I ask as Tony turns towards the carpark exit.
"Overseeing the airport evacuation. We've got a few newbies you'll have to meet."
As we get down to the private runway, Tony diverts Peter off to hide until he gets called in with the code word 'underoos' which is probably some American reference I don't get.
Three figures appear from inside the airport, sprinting towards Tony and I, another following from above.
"Sophie," Nat acknowledges, slightly short of breath. I give her a small smile as she turns to Tony. "Steve's just arrived with Barnes. He's got Wilson, Clint and Maximoff flanking them."
I frown. "Maximoff as in the twins?"
"Twin," Tony corrects. "We lost the brother in Sokovia."
The last I heard, the Maximoff twins were the enemy.
"We haven't met," an accented voice says, drawing me away from the discussion as Tony starts talking tactics.
"No," I reply, turning to the man in the black cat costume. "I'm Sophia."
"T'Challa," he replies, shaking my hand.
"I'm sorry, I can't place your accent."
"I'm from Wakanda," he replies. He must see my blank expression because he adds, "It's a little-known country in Africa."
"Yeah, that the dude's the king of," another man says, stepping forward in a variant of Tony's armour. "I'm Rhodey."
"Good to meet you both," I smile, then nod to the red robot-looking person hovering by Tony. "Who's that?"
"That's Vision," Rhodey answers. "A sentient robot Tony created from the mind stone."
I cock my head in interest. "From the sceptre?"
"Mm," Rhodey nods. "So where do you stand on the Sokovian Accords? Assumedly you're with us?"
"Honestly I only heard about them yesterday, but this kind of proves that it's needed, doesn't it? So that some of us can't just go rogue and start blowing cities up."
"Basically, yeah. You know, I'm surprised they didn't get you in to sign them too."
"I don't think they see me as much of a threat anymore," I say, gesturing to my glasses. "All anyone would have to do is take these and my contacts away and I'm helpless. Plus, I'm not officially an Avenger - this is actually the first time I've been called in by you guys. The other times, I'm just unlucky."
"I wouldn't say you're overly lucky having to deal with this," Rhodey says with a grimace. "It's a mess."
"If Rogers sees sense, he'll surrender Barnes to us and hand himself in," T'Challa says.
"Who's Barnes?"
"One of Cap's old friends from '45," Rhodey answers. "Hydra brought him in after Cap went in the ice and brainwashed him into becoming their prime assassin. He's responsible for the majority of the high-profile assassins in the last half-century, including Kennedy."
"So we're dealing with another Loki?" I ask, my eyebrow rising.
Rhodey can sense my changing of heart. "The dude doesn't have powers, but that doesn't stop him being dangerous."
"Don't you think we're going in a bit heavy-handed? The guy can't help being brainwashed."
"We tried the soft approach already," Tony says, coming forwards as he finishes his talk. "He ended up breaking out of the Joint Terrorist Centre, bringing down dozens of highly trained, armed personnel and all of us. This 'guy' is a major risk. We can't let him get away again."
"Tony, I need to be clear," I say, watching him levelly, "our mission isn't to kill him, is it?"
"Hopefully it won't come to that. Do we have your support?"
That doesn't do much to reassure me, but I'll have more control over the situation from the inside than if I leave. I give him a small nod.
