The facility was in a state of panic. You listened as agents ran back and forth a few floors above, carrying (and dropping) expensive equipment. You shifted slightly in your seated position next to Clint Barton. You weren't supposed to leave yet, not until Director Fury came to check on the Tesseract.
You smiled to yourself as you heard a helicopter descend from the sky. That was him. The reason he'd chosen you for this job was your useful abilities. You were incredibly fast, moving at unnatural speeds. You also had inhuman hearing, which you were using now to make sure that the evacuation was running smoothly, and an incredible sense of smell that you used to distinguish chemicals (earning the lab workers' admiration and the nickname 'The Bloodhound').
"Fury's just landing," you said to your partner. He'd asked you to keep him updated, as he couldn't hear what you could.
"He'll be here in 10 then, maybe 5 if he walks fast," he replied.
I listened as Coulson updated him on the Tesseract's surging energy levels. Fury barked a few orders at him and who you believed was Maria Hill, before making his way down to the lab.
"Looks like he walked fast," you muttered as he walked into the room.
"Talk to me, doctor," he said, looking Erik Selvig.
The scientist moved from the machine that he was fixating and approached the Director. The Tesseract was glowing unusually brighter, blue flares shooting out of it at random.
"Director," Selvig answered.
"Is there anything we know for certain?" asked Fury.
"Tesseract's misbehaving," Selvig replied, grimacing. You stifled a snort at his wording.
"What's happening?" questioned Barton, looking at you curiously.
"Apparently the 'Tesseract's misbehaving'," you chuckled. He nudged you lightly, wondering how you could possibly be laughing in such circumstances.
"We've prepared for this, doctor," continued Fury. "Harnessing energy from outer space."
"We don't have the harness," said Selvig worriedly. "Our calculations are far from complete. Now she's throwing off interference, radiation. Nothing harmful, low levels of gamma radiation."
Fury seemed surprised by this. "That can be harmful. Where are Barton and Y/L/N?"
"The Hawk's up in his nest, as usual. Bloodhound's probably with him."
You stood up and leaned against the railing, waving slightly from above. Clint took notice of this and stood up too.
"Agent Barton, report," you heard Fury's voice through Clint's earpiece.
He rappeled down on a wire while you sped next to Fury, arriving in a mere second.
"You need to stop doing that," the Director exclaimed, barely flinching at your arrival.
Barton soon joined you and the three of you walked through the lab.
"I gave you this detail so you could keep a close eye on things," said Fury eventually.
"Yeah, well, I see better from a distance," Clint retorted.
"Are you seeing anything that might set this thing off?" he continued. Meanwhile, you could hear a scientist in the background warning Selvig that the Tesseract was spiking again.
"No one's come or gone," Barton replied, oblivious. "It's oven is clean. No contacts, no I.M.'s. If there was any tampering, sir, it wasn't at this end."
