Hiccup sat there for hours. The stone he sat on was pretty high, so people could easily walk underneath it, without noticing him. Only if you know that he's up there you'd find him. But this isn't the case for Dragon Riders!
Hiccups team, his friends Fishlegs, Ruffnut, Tuffnut, Snotlout and his crush Astrid were still busy rebuilding the village. Of course they were wondering where Hiccup was but their task kept them all occupied to see after their leader. Like everything else Hiccup enjoyed and hated his lonelyness. But he really didn't mind at all.
His new thoughtful and troubled self just wanted to blame itself how guilty he was for his beloved dads death. If he'd just killed this dragon when he found him in the woods, everything hadn't happen.
Hiccup gave himself alone the fault for his fathers death...
