SERENITY

I took the shirt off my body and my wings ripped my back right open. It was painful, but in a satisfying way. My silver butterfly wings sighed out in front of me and I smiled contently.

Fluttering my wings back and forth over my body helped make the drying process go faster. But I wasn't in such a rush to face my parents.

Eventually, I shrugged my dress and sandals on and flew back to the castle. Only I was disguised as a butterfly. Who knows how many people are out looking for me right now. The sun would set within two hours so technically I wasn't back as late as I could've been.

There were four guards at the front gate holding spears ready to kabob me. I revealed myself back into a fae and their eyes grew to the size of ripe round oranges.

"Your highness, your mother and father are in throne room. They requested that you go to speak to them immediately when you've returned."

"Thank you Ambrose," I nodded.

The guards let me through and most likely notified Cory. Because no more than twenty five feet later, and I see him fly straight towards me.

"Cory-"

"Princess, your parents wish to speak to you," Cory said with a blank face.

He's mad at me. Cory never calls me princess unless I've done something awful to anger him. He knows the term doesn't sit right with me when coming out of the mouth of someone I'm close to.

The throne room balanced as our ballroom as well. I'm not down here much, it reminds me of the night of the incident.

Three thrones were placed side by side on top of a large wide pedestal with stairs connecting to the bottom. The thrones were made from pure rose gold with detailed carvings representing our region. Springy white cushions were in the center making it the most comfortable seat I've ever sat in.

Two of those thrones were filled by very angry looking parental figures. Their eyes dashed towards me and for once, I was actually nervous to get a verbal smackdown. The looks on their faces were different. The way Cory acted just now was different.

Luckily he was still floating behind me, standing by for whatever were to happen next.

"Mother, father," I greeted with a curtsy and a sweet innocent smile, hoping to soften their animosity towards me.

That didn't work.

"Serenity," They both spoke at the same time.

It was deadly silent in the room. So silent I could hear my heart beating through my chest. I wasn't made to endure all of this tension.

"Did you send out guards looking for me?" I asked.

"No, we didn't," Father spoke. "We considered it until Cory persuaded us to give you some time and space. Then we would chat when you've returned from, wherever you've flown off to."

"I only went to the forest, I swear," I placed a hand over my heart. "So are... are you mad?"

Mother scoffed.

"Am I mad...? Am I mad?" Mother repeated with more aggression. "I am absolutely furious!"

"Calypso," Father soothed her.

Veins were popping out of my mother's forehead and neck, only easing when father touched her shoulder. He always knew how to calm her down with a single look or touch. He was her anchor back to a rational state.
