Chapter 1:

Jay was woke up by Sophia like he normally was. He check the clock that read 3:30 this wasn't the time Sophia normally was up. He went in a checked on her his poor 6 month old baby had stitches on her stomach and a huge bandage around it from where Jays ex Rebecca has stabbed her with a beer bottle. He took the tiny baby in his arms and rocked her in the rocking chair. Rebecca was gone behind bars Jay had a meeting to get full custody of Sophia so he could make sure she was safe. Her crying didn't lighten up he figured she must be in pain so he gave her some Tylenol. Within 20 minutes she was out. " I love you baby," Jay said placing a soft kiss of the top of her head before going back to bed. Jay Halstead was a Detective in Chicago's Intelligence Unit he had a 6 month old baby girl named Sophia. Sophia was born 5 weeks early at 32 weeks every since Jay held her for the first time he swore nobody was gonna hurt her and he failed at that. Rebecca was watching Sophia while Jay was finishing up so paperwork in the bedroom she had been drinking but apparently a lot more then Jay thought. He heard a shatter and one of Sophia's blood curdling a cry's that he never heard. Around 6 am the alarm went off. Jay groaned as he rolled over a hit stop. His feet hit the cold tile of his room. He walked to Sophia's rooms where the baby was still sleeping but now needed to be woken up. " I'm sorry but that's what you get for waking up at 3 am," Jay said. He changed her diaper and got her dressed into a long sleeve onesie and some pants. It was a rough morning for them but they finally made it out of the house. Arriving at the district Jay was pulled into Hanks office. " Hey Halstead I know finding a partner hasn't been the easiest but I think we found one her name is Hailey she worked in robbery homicide," Hank said. " When can I meet her?" " She starts tomorrow," Hank said," Right now I need you and Kevin to go to med and talk with Ben Reed." " Copy that." They made their way over to Med and went to talk with Ben. " I swear I didn't do anything," Ben said. He was extremely nervous for this meeting. " That's a new on," Kevin said. " Why did you run," Jay asked? " Because you were all running so I did as well," Ben pleaded. He started breathing faster and fastest until his monitors started beeping rapidly. They got thrown out of the room left without information. " It's not your fault it was gonna happen one way or another," Will said giving his younger brother a reassuring grip on his shoulder. " Will Lauren's out of surgery she's doing great," Erin said. " Thanks did the parents ever show back up," Will asked? " Mom did and she has a lot of question." " Ok thank you," Will said. She went into the lounge area and Will turned his head to have Jay giving him the look. " No Jay she's my co worker I'm not gonna date her." " If you say so," Jay said. They went back to the district to give Hank the news. " Sarge we didn't get anything her started having a seizure," Jay said. " Alright so we start from square one." It was around 3:30 Intelligence hadn't gotten very far on the case because all of their suspects were getting shot. " Jay that was Gabby she had Sophia stiches reopened and she's not breathings she on her way to med now," Mouse said. " Tell Sarge where I'm going." He got in his car and sped to Med a call came in on his phone assuming it was somebody from district he ignored it and focused on driving. Arriving at Med he went through all the nurses to see what room Sophia was in. " Sir give the doctors some space," Erin said. " That's my daughter the one thing in my life that's important," Jay said. "Why don't you come with me and we can talk about what happening," Erin suggested. They went into the lounge and sat on the couch. " Sophia has fluid in her lungs which is the main problem the stitches we just stitch back up but we have to do more the the fluid in her lungs because she is such a young age," Erin said. " Sophia was born at 32 weeks mothers behind bars because she caused this I have trial next month to get full custody of Sophia I help my 3 pound baby and swore I would protect her-," A couple tears fell down his face as his voice broke off. " She's a trooper she will be just fine," Erin said. " I don't mean to change subjects but is my brother secretly dating you," Jay asked? " No I would never date him he actually like the girl with the brown hair Natalie," Erin said. Jay didn't even pay attention to that he saw the one person he never wanted to see again walk through the ER. " Rebecca your suppose to be in jail," Jay hissed. " Maybe if you would answer your damn phone you would know my mom bailed me out I'm taking Sophia and we are leaving," Rebecca said. " Your not touching her because of that deep gash you gave her she's in surgery," Jay said," So I think it's best if you leave." " Fine also you might wanna call that number back it's my lawyer we will be seeing you in court for who gets custody of Sophia next week." She walked away leaving Jay stunned and confused but what was mainly on his main was he had to get custody of his baby girl.
