Yane walked into the room and he spotted me. Then, he looked at the blood on my kimono and gasped. "Nissa! Are you hurt or anything?" He asked me and I shook my head. "That is... Someone else's blood." Kai spoke for me and I nodded, agreeing with what he said. Yane nodded, "You should go home and get some rest." Yane ordered me and I nodded.
Cyan helped me stand up and he walked with me all the way to his house. We got inside and I sat down on the mat and he sat down next to me. "Nissa..." He gently called my name and I turned to look at him. "I know what it's like... To lose someone you love..."
I tilted my head in interest as he began telling me his story.
"Two years ago, I was on a date with... With Yona. She was engaged to me and we've been together for 6 years... It was our 6th year anniversary and we were strolling in the park. I remembered I had killed one of Jin's elite soldier a couple days before, and he had sent some of his trained ninjas to search for me and warn me. I didn't know that, killing his elite soldier... I would have to suffer consequences...
"Three of his ninjas captured her and... I managed to kill two, but the last remaining one... Took her life and..." Tears were rolling down his cheeks. "Living a ninja life is dangerous... Yona knew that, but she continued to love me... I supported her love all the way and I never thought that I could live without her... I know what you're going through Nissa, only I wish that I didn't go through it." He looked down and I placed my hands on either side of his face.
I wiped his tears with my thumbs and I looked in his eyes. "I didn't really love Jaehul as much as I wanted to... But I loved how he was always there for me." I said and Cyan nodded slowly. "I'm sorry if I've been very rude to you lately. I guess, I'm still healing on the inside." Cyan said as he sighed. "I'm still healing too, from everything that has happened lately." I said as I looked down. "I've only learned to be tough and rude. I was taught that was the only way to survive in this harsh world. I've lost my parents like you at the age of nine. Yane took me in, and let me tell you, he was the meanest and toughest man you could ever meet.
"Yane trained me and practically raised me as his son. I hardly talked to anyone and I had my first mission when I was thirteen." Cyan explained and I looked at him in surprise. "Thirteen? That's really young..." I said. "Well, according to Yane it's not." He said back and I nodded.
I felt honored Cyan shared his life story with me. I finally figured out who Yona was, but after I found out, I felt so guilty and I felt so bad for him. I could tell he really loved her. I don't think that I ever loved a man that way, and it was not Jaehul. That was a temporary love, but Cyan's love was eternal. He loved Yona with all his life and he still does, even if it's been two years since her death.
Honestly, I felt jealous that he loved her so greatly. While I, had no one to love, but myself. That's okay, I love myself and I'll listen to what Jaehul said to me. I'm not going to let anyone hurt me.
I went to bed, it was hard sleeping because I had dreams of Jaehul's killing over and over again. I woke up in the middle of the night, scared and sweaty and I was shaking in fear. Cyan rushed to me and he held me close. I felt so much safer in his arms, but I only knew that I couldn't get much closer than this. He was Yona's forever and that's okay. He deserved a woman like her even though she's dead.
Cyan was still next to me when I woke up in the morning. He was sleeping soundly and I smiled as I stared at his face. His arms were still around me and as I tried to get up his grip tightened. Oh no... Not this again... His eyelids slowly opened and he looked up at me. "Nissa..." He whispered and I looked down at him.
"Hm?"
"Nissa..." He said and my name again. "Yes?" I said and he sat up. "You can't go anywhere." He told me. "W-Why?"
"There are troops, ninjas, warriors, soldiers out looking for you. Jin wants you captured as soon as possible."
"Why? I don't understand. Why me?"
"I can't tell you..."
I stood up, "This is what makes me mad! I have to live in fear, always on the run, but I don't even know why!" I said in anger. Cyan stood up as well and he took my hand into his. "We don't think you're ready to hear it. We're going to the Rose district tomorrow, you have to come with." He said and I nodded. "I'll have to go to the market today to buy us supplies. I have to drop you off at Malin's house so he can watch you while I am at the market, okay?" He said.
"O-Okay..."
We walked to Malin's house as quick as we could, cutting through alleyways to avoid being seen. Cyan was right, there are twice as many guards scouting the area. We rushed into Malin's house and Malin greeted us. "Welcome to my humble home." He said as he smiled. "Watch her, I need to go to the market and buy us supplies for the trip." Cyan told Malin and he nodded. "Got it. Leave it to me." Malin said as he saluted. I laughed, he is such a dork.
Cyan left, leaving me and Malin alone in the house. "You hungry?" He asked me and I shook my head.
"You tired?" I shook my head.
"You thirsty?" I shook my head.
"Cyan... Um, he finally told me who she was." I told Malin and he nodded. "I told you, he just need to be ready. He hasn't talked about her for two years. He had insomnia before, not being able to sleep. It just happens when you've seen so many horrible things happen in your life... It's the consequences that come with being a ninja." Malin said and I nodded slowly.
"But... He wasn't a ninja by choice. It was more like force, wasn't it?"
"Yeah... He didn't refuse it. I guess he wanted a better life than what he had when he was little. He has a good life ever since Yane took him in."
"Well, what about you?" I asked him and he sighed.
"I'm a ninja by choice. I was born in the Sugar Crystal district, but I left my family. They were getting on my nerves. My dad wanted me to become a farmer and take over his farm, but I didn't want that. I wanted to become a writer, so I moved to the Blue Dragon district, trying to search for an opportunity to start my dream career. I had no luck, no one wanted to help me and no one acknowledged me there. I moved to the Moon district and met Yane there.
"He was looking for a writer that would help him convince the people to vote him chairman of the district. I asked him if I was able to qualify for it, but he took me in like that. I took that opportunity to tell him about my life story and he told me who he really was after he gained some trust. He threatened me if I told anyone who he was and that he was a ninja, he would hunt me down and kill me and all my family.
"But I told him that I had no intentions of telling anyone because I wanted to become one myself. He accepted me and began training me along with Cyan. Cyan was already on missions and already killing people. It really traumatized him, but Yane pushed him to the guy he is now." I listened closely to Cyan. "What about your family?" I asked. I panicked a little inside, I shouldn't have asked that.
"I never visited them and I have no intentions. I could care less if they are dead. They were selfish and greedy and they didn't care about my happiness. They just wanted to make me do their work for them so they don't have to lose anything. I wanted to be someone successful, but they didn't see the potential in me. I left to prove them wrong, but I guess I ended up with a different story." He said as he smiled.
I smiled back. I love listening to their back stories. If this keeps up, maybe I could hear more from Kai and Yane. I wish I could ask Jaehul his story... One day, I'll meet him where he is right now and we can talk as much as we want. But for now, I have to keep living to do something incredible.
