Eddie woke up the next morning feeling on top of the world. He was happy, he had great friends and he and Richie were amazing.
Yes, he was ecstatically happy.
Wanting to get to school (mostly to see Richie), Eddie thoughtlessly threw on a plain white t-shirt and some acid washed jeans.
I get to see Richie! I get to see Richie! I get to see Richie! I get to see Richie! It pounded in Eddie's head like a mantra.
He wasn't sure if Richie wanted to tell the other losers, but Eddie knew they wouldn't care. He had a gut feeling.
And Eddie's gut never failed him.
Eddie dashed down the stairs to the kitchen so fast, he didn't see the two men sitting in the living room with his mother.
Eddie was smiling ear to ear as he made his plain cheese sandwich.
Richie always made fun of his sandwich.
"Really Eds? Just cheese? You really are boring! Here try some ham? Please! Anything!"
Eddie chuckled to himself.
He really loved when Richie called him Eds.
"Hey Ma? I'm just gonna get to school..." Eddie stopped short as he noticed the two men.
The three of them had been talking in a hushed tone, but they had stopped abruptly when Eddie entered the room.
"Uh... who are these people Ma?" Eddie felt a wave of dread wash over him and he wasn't sure.
Relax Eddie. They are probably just friends.
But Eddie could still feel his stomach doing summersaults.
"Oh, Eddie Bear!" Sonia stood up, hurrying over to where a stiff Eddie stood. She wrapped her arms around him, Eddie hesitantly hugged her back.
"You're sick Eddie."
"But I had my check-up less than 2 weeks ag-"
"No Eddie... Richie Toizer made you ill. These men are here to take you to a place where you can get help."
Eddie's stomach dropped and he felt the blissful joy he felt a few seconds ago, shatter around him.
She didn't mean he was sick in his body, like the flu.
She meant in the head.
And Eddie knew what she meant.
"What do you mean Ma? I'm fine. Richie... Richie isn't sick either... he didn't give me any sickness."
Eddie was close to tears; he didn't know what to do. Should he run? Or talk it out?
"Oh Eddie!" Sonia was crying now, but Eddie didn't know why. "That Richie Toizer has made you a filthy faggot."
